Hey folks, I hope this note finds you doing great and getting set for an exciting fall. I do have a few questions. We have our upper elementary school students still in the sanctuary through worship and then they are dismissed to their cl. Without going into much detail this poses many challenges for our teaching staff as well as students. We are looking to have a worship time for our kids in their chapel starting at the beginning of service but my senior pastor wants to know the “trend.” If you could let me know simply your church size and w Your church size: Do you have children in service with parents: If yes, how much of the service: If no, when do parents and kids have together time in church (special events, services, etc.): Do you know of any church over 2000 members that keeps their kids in service through worship and then dismisses them (please give me a church name and or contact person if possible).
Thank you so much for your consideration in answering these questions. I just found out that I have to make a presentation to the executive staff next Tuesday so any timely answers would be greatly appreciated! Mike

size: @1,000 Do you have children in service with parents? NO No-- parents and children are together during family ministry events, concerts, etc. I don't know of any churches over 2K with children in the service. (But how big is Ivy Beckwith's (author of Post-Modern Children's Ministry)?) Volunteers: Nursery-Two's Rotate once a month, one service. Ages 3-Grade 5 are weekly for a one year term. Plugging in: We expect the volunteers to attend the opposite service. I think that CMMAG did an online survey a few years ago that had the number of churches that include children in worship to be a 50%. However, I suspect if the data were to be teased out by church size, you'd see a sharp decline in children in the main w/service. Larry

Mike, We had 5100 scattered among 2 services this past Sunday, and while only about half our families choose to do so, they are encouraged to worship together. James

Mike, Here at Westwood Community Church, a congregation of approximately 3000, we have around 1000 students aged birth through 4th grade over four services. Parents are always welcome to bring their kids in to service with them, but are also invited to participate in our strong ministry to kids. Given the volume and multiple service format, it would be logistically challenging to have a worship time and dismissal for elementary students. Families have other opportunities to grow, learn and serve together through a variety of special intergenerational events throughout the ministry year. We are purposeful about those opportunities, keeping in mind that families are already busy, so we really try to make them count. One example would be our annual Trunk & Treat, a kind of Fall Festival, in which we have a time of Praise & Worship, teaching, serving opportunity, and fellowship through giving out treats from decorated car trunks by various ministries, small groups and families in our church. It’s also a great time of outreach as people invite friends and family members who don’t attend church. We also try to link church to home through our website and weekly take-home pieces. Growth also happens as we encourage families to serve together, either in Children’s Ministries or some other area. Danise

Church size: around 6500 weekend attendees
Kids in adult worship: No. We offer an overflow worship room for families that insist that they worship together. We also have 3-4 worship gatherings throughout the year where parents and kids can worship together. Parents are encouraged to worship with their children on occasion in our children's ministry.

At Vineyard Community Church, we have 6000 people coming each weekend, with 8-900 kids. Worship is separate. All the kids would not fit in our auditorium, and we value age-appropriate worship settings plus a relevant approach for adults that not all kids would do well with.
Several times a year, we have special events that include intergenerational worship and teaching.
I don’t know of larger churches that dismiss kids from the service to cl. Security and time for purposeful ministry would be issues in doing this.
Bless you!
Karen

Your church size: 8,750+
Do you have children in service with parents:
If yes, how much of the service:
If no, when do parents and kids have together time in church (special events, services, etc.): No. They are together in church when church leaves the Sunday worship service @ our locations. Our prayers and initiatives over this next year are that our grown-ups will become more involved with their Kid-Os faith journey at home.
Do you know of any church over 2000 members that keeps their kids in service through worship and then dismisses them (please give me a church name and or contact person if possible).
