| I want to make sure before I buy the starter pack that this VBS is appropriate for kids 3 years old to 6th grade. I like the idea of this VBS. It does not sound as corny as others I see. How old are the teen leaders? Will the 5 and 6th graders think this is "fun" or too childish? Is there something for a lot of young children?- Last year there were over 35 kids in the 3-5 year old class! Is it designed for the younger kids to have activities for them and something designed for the older kids too, or is everybody doing the same thing? This is my first year as Children's Ministry Chairperson. There is someone that is in charge of VBS and I want to offer the best program for our church. Last year we did a Beach party- Beach Beattitudes. I don't even know who the maker of it was. I know they expected 75 children and had between 125 and 150 a night! We are in a growing church and neighborhood! I helped a friend with the Power lab VBS at her church and liked parts of it but know that the older kids did not like Chatter as much. However, my 3 year old liked him.

| The unique thing about Rome is that kids get to try "non-traditional" things--like writing with real ink on a scroll and sealing it with wax, or having wild chariot rides on sheets of cardboard. That REALLY appeals to the older kids--plus they LOVE having the choice of where to go in the Marketplace. Each shop includes ideas for younger kids--like just having building blocks in the Architect's shop. So there's a wide variety. Let me know if you have any questions.

We have done 3 years of the Holyland VBS's now, and each year we have said that entire families are invited. We have found that kids from about age 3-11 or 12 seem to get the most out of it. But even toddlers or older teens and adults benefit.
My daughter was 16 months old the first time, and loved the music & the whole environment, but I didn't have her try any crafts or Tribe Time. This year she was 3 1/2, and did OK in tribe time, and loved most of the crafts, even tho she needed help with most of them.
Some of our 12 year olds think they are too old for VBS. We let 12 year olds be assistant shopkeepers, and 13 or above can be assistant tribe leaders. A couple of 13 year olds have even been shopkeepers. We had some 12 year olds this year who wanted to be "staff" but were not quite ready to leave being "kids", so they joined a tribe, but when their tribe went to the marketplace, they went to specific shops where they were assigned as junior assistants. This year we had some 14 or 15 year olds who have not attended church much who joined tribes and seemed to have a great time. And we had some 16 year olds who are not members of our congregation, who stepped up to help, and were tribe leader assistants and did a great job.
I had an adult just yesterday tell me that they got such a blessing out of being involved with the Holyland VBS as a staff member, and I have, too. It is an awesome program to offer for the kids, families, church members, community. I love that we need lots of volunteers to run these programs, because we get so many church members involved. If they are not tribe leaders or shopkeepers or drama people, they might provide food for the staff one evening, or help with setting up the marketplace canopies, or donate supplies. Every person in our congregation can get involved in some way.
