Our church is partnering with the Elementary school down the road from the church through a program called Hand In Hand ministry.

The program was started by a small Methodist church in our state that wanted to reach out to the public school near their school. Hand in Hand shows churches how to set up a partnership with a school to provide prayer partners for teachers, appreciation events, after school programs and volunteers for school/community programs.

School usually welcome Hand In Hand programs, but they must be approved by the principal. In our case, a member of our church who is a teacher at the school arranged the partnership with the principal's blessings. We are offering prayer partners and are volunteering to read with children. Teachers must sign up to get a prayer partner and we are not allowed to contact anyone who doesn't sign up. Prayer Partners not only pray for a teacher, but also give token encouragements notes, gifts and treats. All Hand In Hand volunteers must do through the school background check to be allowed on campus.

We are excited about this opportunity to reach families through our public school. We get an invitation into the public school to pray with and for teachers. We get to interact with and support children we work with through the reading program. (We get to pray for them too, even though it will have to be silently and secretly!)
