| Why did Group choose God Sightings over Daily Chalenges?
For anyone who went to the F.T. what were they like?

| I'd definitely like to know more about these God Sightings that are incorporated into Crocodile Dock. I've read what the website has to say about them and they sound like a great idea. Does anyone from the field test have any stories about these God Sightings? Are they only for this VBS since we're talking about fear and how God is always with us so we're looking for how He shows himself in our lives? I loved the Daily Challenges because they encouraged kids to live out the Bible Point in their daily lives. Will the God Sightings have the same effect as the Daily Challenges? I'm excited to see how they'll work at everyone's Crocodile Dock VBS this summer. God Bless, Josh

I also wander- are the God Sightings just for CD? Will there be Daily Chalenges for 2010?

Why have you chosen to focus on the plagues? I imagine we'll be having fun with insects and frogs, but is this the main story being taught about God's power on day 2?
While not cherry picking the Bible, we as parents and educators actively select stories to tell our children in an effort to best send a message. In the entire Bible, is there no kinder and less fearful story of God's power and love which would allow for playing with insects and frogs? The Plagues of Egypt story of blood and boils, death and destruction strikes me as standing in direct contrast to the vision of VBS summer fun and Christ's most important message of God's love for all.

I enjoyed the daily challenges... they gave practical application to the lessons. I understand the gist of the God Sightings (new is cool, I can hang with that). The problem I have is running into fluff and not change in the kids... Defining what a "God Sighting" is... is KEY.
From the training manual...
"Share a God Sighting of your own. It might be as simple as a beautiful tree or a flower you saw...."
WHOA. Careful now. Kids need to know that the Creator made these things and are NOT these things. God created them mightily and they illustrate His amazing power. Kids are very concrete and if we say "when you see a tree you see God" then we're headed down a wrong road! When we say "hey you saw a tree, you saw what God made!!!" then we're hittin' it right. Evidences of God (page 15 in the manual) need to be emphasized before we edge towards Worshiping the creation over the Creator.
I know it's not the intent of the material. I see what's going on. I'm also trying to process it through the mind of a concrete thinker. When you say "I see that tree, I see God..." you have to be careful. "I see that tree, I see God's handiwork, He's so awesome to have made that tree" Also, "that kind word was proof to me that God is working" will be better than "I hear God in those words"
Just My Own Opinion... I preferred the more concrete Daily Challenge, but I see the value in this, just want to make the theological/philosophical stance. I'm already working on a Cajun accent and cypress trees :-D

Wow am I totally off? I understood by reading the Sing and Play book that God Sightings have to do with the kids still doing for others and when they see others do something for someone else. That what they are to share during God Sightings.

From what I am understanding about God sightings, they will have a sheet that has a list of ways to see God or to show God by doing something, almost like the challenge sheet. It is not just looking at creation to see God, but looking at other peoples works to see God working through them, and knowing that God could also shine through them by what they do for others. It was only a quick skim through of the material, but that is how I saw it.

| God Sightings are anything we see or experience...or even DO...that are evidence of God. So you can be a God Sighting by showing God's love, mercy, forgiveness, or joy. You might see God in the things he's made--nature, people. Or (for adults) you might see God through someone else's expression of God's character--someone shows YOU love, kindness, grace, or creativity. Our surprise was that kids got it pretty quickly--our staff emphasized it and modelled it, which made all the difference. And we still hear about kids experiencing something incredible (we might say "It's a God thing") and identifying that as a God Sighting. We discovered that we didn't need a concrete list of things for them to check off--we wanted to challenge them to keep their eyes open for evidence of God in everyday life. It'll be different for everyone. God Sightings will be a part of both Group VBS programs for 2010.

As a participant in the Field Test for Crock Dock, I feel that I must add a comment to the forum concerning God Sightings. I found that the concept of God Sightings is just a step ahead of the Daily Challenges in that the particpants are tuned into listening and seeing God in what they hear in words from other, words that they may say, the reactions of others, the beauty in God's world, etc. They are tuned into their world and not just watching it go by. The kids seem to really like to share their thoughts and to see the visual of the light that is lit each day and eventually to see all the God Sighting lights at the end of the week...WOW! I find I look for God Sightings each day and when I even as an adult express being a God Sighting to someone, they are taken by what an act of generosity it is to have that said to them. I hope that you can see that I think that God Sightings are a GS in their own way. Just another step in children being brought to understand and appreciating their world.

| Group used this same story, and pretty much the same "interactions" with Pharoah about 10 years ago, when my children were small....they LOVED it, and they will NEVER forget that moses told Pharoah "Let my people go!" It was not scary at all!
