First time using Group and wanted to know it they had a musical that we could perform with all the kids on the stage?   I thought that I could arrange a program using  all the songs but would like to have some ideas for hand motions other than just hands, (ie: green pom poms, or green dowel rods with alligator material for banners or something along that line).  Any suggestions?

Also I love the posts here, I just wished I had found it sooner before all the Halloween clearance items had disappeared.  Oh, by the way does anyone know if real spanish moss would cause allergic reactions to people who have allergies?  Sure would hate to loose some people because they couldn't breathe in the swamp!!!!

I sometimes write an ending for the last day. Last year there was a closing skit with three scientist that recapped the whole week. I have not heard of anything yet. We do not do a special day at the end of vbs. day five closing is the last time we see the kids so we invite them to that and I add to giet the kids to review the whole week. Some churches do the follow up. we do not so if I had a special day I would try to use the skit from the follow up.

God Bless!

Hi. I read your post, and I wanted to give you a few tips. With so many other VBS programs, the kids have music class, which teaches them performance singing. Group's music is integrated worship, which doesn't teach performance at all, but rather encourages the kids to talk to God through song. If you're wanting to do a program for the kids' parents, you might mention this to the parents, as they may expect a kids choir to perform for them. I have had good results by asking different crews to come up to the stage and lead the other kids in worship, and of course the parents can join in, or just watch. Having a smaller group lead a bigger group allows the kids to show what they know, but continue in the worship mode. You might have someone write a tie from the bible point of the day to the bible story to the bible verse and the song that goes with all of it for each day. Honestly, you might choose 2 or 3 rather than showing all 5. Kids memorize so easily and you could have each bible verse recited by a brave and accomplished child, another child could read the bible point, maybe show the posters, etc. It will all come together so much better after you go through the first few days of Crocodile Dock. I am sure you want to have it all ready before the week, but it may all gel when you see how it runs. Group isn't like any VBS I've ever done, and I've done at least a half a dozen others, but they make it work, if you follow the directions. The leaders books will spell everything out. Your Sing & Play leader, along with your Finale leader will know how to make your parents program flow by following the pattern set out by integrating kids into the teaching. I've been doing Group's Easy VBS since 1999, and I wouldn't do any other. I have been the Director all along, and I've been the Sing & Play leader since 2001, which I wouldn't trade for any other job! I'd love to help you as you plan, if you have questions. Also, Group provides a VBS specialist that you can speak with for help.

Best of planning luck, and with God in charge, and Group on board, your VBS will be amazing!

Anita,

We used real spanish moss for Lava Lava Island with no problems.  Before we put the moss out we did spray it for bugs in big garage bags.  I plan to do the same thing this year.

Thanks everyone.  I can't wait to get the materials here.  I'm so excited this year and I am not even the director just a big helper.  Curious though, what kind of spray did you use on the spanish moss?

My family and I just got back from Panama City, FL and the whole time I was gone I was still in VBS mode.  Check out your local thrift stores and Goodwill stores and Salvation army stores in your area.  I found several different types of leaves to make my net out of and the cost was next to nothing.

While in Walmart I walked by the toy section and there was a huge box with skate boards in it that had 2 4'x4' pieces of 2 in styrofoam in it.  Of course, I asked the clerk what they were going to do with and they said throw it away and I got it at no charge.

While at Lowe's I found two empty carpet rolls and they actually cut it in half for me at the lumber section so it would fit in my car and it cost nothing either.  Plan to use these for the poles on each side of the dock.

My husband even started looking for things for me.  Right now the south is full of Spanish Moss so can't wait to hear what you sprayed it with and where did you store it until you needed it?
