| My ministry team is getting ready for our planning retreat in January. I'd love to bring some fun, new ideas to the table! What does your activities calendar look like? We try to do 1 big event a quarter, and then Easter Egg Hunt, VBS in the summer, Fall Festival, but here are our extra events. I'd love to learn about yours! Teddy Bear Tea (for preschoolers), Park-a-Palooza (this is an anytime special event that we use as a reward for kids learning a certain number of Bible verses. We go to 5 parks in 2 hours, the kids have to move fast on the equipment while they are there, and they think it's cool, then it's on to the next park.), Princess Party for elem. girls/Fishing Trip for elem. boys (this came about as the kids who had to quit going to the Teddy Bear Tea when they promoted out of preschool wanted something special)

| Here is something that we did at the last church we were at and that I would love to start at our current church. Each year there is usually a Mother Daughter event and Father Son event. But this church also had a Mother Son event in March and Father Daughter Dance in April. At the Mother Son event there were usually games, crafts, a meal, and a speaker. I actually took my son one year and he loved it! I helped out as a server for the Father Daughter Dance and really enjoyed it. The fathers stopped by the church the night before and picked up corsages for the daughters. Then before the dance they took their daughters to dinner and came to the church for dessert. We all dressed in white shirts and black pants for serving. Then they had their pictures taken and were seated and served cake and punch. While seated there was a speaker. Once that was over they had a few special dances and then a few games. There were crafts and prizes at each table. It was really neat to watch the fathers spend this special night with their daughters. These events were for ages 3-about 6th grade.

I'm the Children's Dir. at my local Church and we always have all the usual: Easter (Skit, egg hunt etc.) Fall Festival, at Christmas I have breakfast with Santa. This is a huge hit. We have people from all over come to this event. We have a great Santa and Mrs. Santa. What makes it special is that Santa tells the children about the greatest gift ever given, (Jesus, of course) and we sing Happy Birthday Jesus and the preteens perform a Drama and the Teens perform their Drama. It was the best this last year. I also have Kids night out on Tues. nights, 6:30-8:00 pm. After 15 min. of Devotion, (right now were learning the books of the New Testament and about the books.) Then we have games and snack. I would love some ideas for Children's Church and games for inside in the winter and outside in the summer. Yes, I have Children's Church also. I have wonderful helpers, and assistants. Sometimes I seem to run out of ideas and would love to here things the rest of you do. I'm now planning a Kids Kusade, a Valentine Party and trying to work on Easter as well. Thank God I don't work outside of the home, but I know I'm doing what God has called me to do. I love the Children and would not trade my position for the world. I've been working with the same Children for about 5 years. Well, some have got too old and went up to the teens. Please let me know if you know ANYTHING I can use. If it involves children and Church, I'm interested. God Bless, bamagurly [email] johigg1964@aol.com Let me know if you have any questions about the breakfast with Santa or anything else I can help with.
God Bless, JoAnn

| I do a "Funday Sunday" about every other month. I keep the kids from AM Service until PM service on Sundays. We serve them lunch and then do an extra activity such as swimming, skating, bowling or something of that sorts. I had an Easter scavenger hunt with them the Sunday before Easter. The scavenger hunt consisted of hiding 12 different (color coded envelopes) for 5 teams. The envelopes were numbered 1-12. They had to go look for envelope 1 in their color code, open the clue and find what the clue said. The clues consisted of: 1. Find the item that they waved at Jesus at the entrance of the church (which was of course a palm leaf) I put 12 clues that all pointed to the Easter story, and the final clue they had to find a person who was hiding (a bit hard) and see what they had in the box. (the box was empty and thus the end of the Easter Story-the tomb was empty because Jesus arose. ) The kids had a ball running outside to find the numbered hint and then run back inside to find the item. The loved it and it was a huge success.

| An event I would like to bring back is Parent's Night Off (or Kids Night Out). Drop off for a few hours so the parents can go to dinner. We've done this at Christmas so they could go Christmas shopping without prying eyes. Kids come in pajamas, crafts snacks, veggie tales movie, songs.... The only problem was that my dedicated people are the ones who wanted to get a break so I had a little trouble finding enough leaders. I would like to turn it over to the Youth and have them take it on (with a few key adults of course).

| Not really an event but we try to keep the kids connected to the other ministries of the church. The Sunday school cl participate in the quarterly missions projects (school supplies, canned food...). This year we participated in the church auction by donating themed baskets to be auctioned off-- we did "Movie Night" and "Autumn Home". Everyone brought in whatever they wanted that fit the theme, we put the items in a cute basket and there you go. Another new event was a parking lot yard sale where people bought a table for $30 and that money went to camperships. Plus if people wanted to they could donate some or all of their earnings also. And some kids set up a snack station and sold candy and drinks.
