I have a question / need some suggestions. I have taken a new youth ministry position and the pastor told me that I can do anything on Sunday night. I have free range on Sunday nights (do not need to be at the church for either Sunday night service, or discipleship training). The pastor really wants to grow the youth group and as of now the service is not very youth friendly if you know what I mean. I have often struggled with Sunday nights or discipleship training and the lack of interest and wanting to be there. So with this blank canvas what would you do?

Teach at every oppurtunity. I suggest a small group with the most dedicated kids. Take them deep.

What you do with that Sunday night service very much depends on 1) Your personality & personal direction, 2) Where your youth are, and what kind of a group makeup you have, 3) What your vision and purpose are, and 4) how many students you are expecting to have participate.
For instance;
If you are a really relational person with a smaller group of new Christians (8-10) and your current goals are to encourage them with their daily lives and to help them grow and mature. Having a fun hangout at your house with food and games and a shorter Bible study may be a good idea.
If you are more of a hands on person with a larger group of more mature Christians and you current goals are to teach them leadership and to reach out to others, planning things like outreaches or walking around town offering to change lightbulbs for free to people in the community, etc. may be a better plan.
Overall, taking a group of your most mature students and going deep may be perfect for your situation, but you need to know who you and they are, where you and they are, and where you are wanting to take them.
