I'm part of an adult small group within our church, made up mostly of parents of kids in the youth group.  As part of a local booster organization at one of our high schools, I see the benefits of having involved adults...  We take care of the logistical side of things, which leaves the coach/director/leader free to focus on doing what they do best.

Rather than use the word "booster" though.. since the support we'll offer will primarily be prayer support and logistical support.. I thought something along the lines of "pit crew" would be better... (I said the word "booster" and thought one of the pastors was going to blow a gasket.. worried, I'm sure.. that we'd be heavy into the fund raising associated with "boosters" and competing for the general fund dollars!  NOT!)

I see many positives.  1.  Prayer support for our youth leaders and students.  2.  Logistical support (flipping burgers, setting up decorations, transportation, etc).. which would free our youth leaders up to focus on what they do best!  3.  Some fund raising, yes... but alongside the students, and not a "heavy hitting" thing.  4.  Increased communication among the parents and leaders... which would give the whole church a better grasp on what's going on with our youth.  5.  Support system for the parents... as we meet to pray for our youth, and as we work alongside one another.. those are golden opportunities for us to encourage one another and help one another through the teenage years.

Any thoughts?  Is anybody else doing this.. or organized like this?  Anybody see any obvious negatives I'm not seeing?

I don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for or not:

I lead the 5-8th jr youth group at our church. We have a group of about six adults who tag team this age group. My wife and I do the Wednesday night activities, another couple does the Sunday School lessons on Sunday morning, and another couple is simply crowd control. No matter who is leading the rest of us are there to help out, keep the kids in line(somewhat), etc. We decided when we began the ministry to approach it as a team, so the pressure isn't on any one person. We support each other in prayer, bounce ideas off of each other, and when we hold our youth services these people are always sitting at the front of the church to support any kids that come to the altar. We also try to go out and eat every once in a while. It's kind of nice to just sit down and talk, even when you see each other 2-3 times a week.

Hope this helps.
