I went ahead and purchased the Rome kit yesterday purely on faith, and it's a wonderful program. However, I don't know what my situation is going to be over the next few months, and we have been holding the VBS during spring break, for a few reasons, like very hot weather in the summer and lack of AC in the church. Many of us just can't handle that heat and work as hard as we must, plus the HLA themes have always fit so well into the time just before Easter (other than BV, which we didn't do).
I have done the bulk of the planning, shopping, prep, decorating for the last three years, and few people in the church will commit to taking on responsibility. I have been able to take time from my job to pull everything together, and enjoyed doing so. Last week I was laid off from my job of the last ten years. Thankfully, I have severance pay which will keep us going till April, but by then I have to be working again, as we really need health benefits for my husband. So, I'm thinking it won't be so easy to take time off from a new job. I have asked a group of women at church to consider becoming co-directors, and I would be as involved as possible. I got the answer today that one will be out of town, one is taking her kids to another church, and haven't heard from the third yet, but I don't think she would be able to shoulder that much responsibility due to her own situation.
I need God's direction in who to approach and how, to recruit somebody to direct this year. Also whether to consider a summer VBS indoors, as we now have window AC in the fellowship hall where our preschool meets. However, that limits the time we can have it to a two week period in August immediately following the biggest event our church holds each year, so decorating would have to be done very quickly after that.
Maybe I'm over-thinking this; I really just want to know what God has in mind for us this year. I just think Rome can be such a powerful program, and I don't want it to be done haphazardly. Will you pray, please? Thanks so much!

| Syndee, I'll be praying for you and your church's Rome VBS 2009 program. Hopefully everything will work out and your church will be able to have a successful Rome VBS. I'll also be praying that you would be able to find a new job. God Bless, Josh

| Syndee, I will be happy to pray for you and your church. We also had a dilemma because my husband lost his job, and we praise God that He provided another one for him. But we will need to move, and I am so thankful we have a new VBS director who is very enthusiastic, and hopefully more organized than I was! If you let God lead, He always has a plan, even if it is not what we think should happen!

Thank you Dawn, for the prayers and the encouragement. I do have two women I'm to meet with soon to get the ball rolling, so am happy about that.
How far will you be moving? Have you been able to look at churches yet? I will pray that you can find a Rome VBS to be involved with. I just think this is going to be an awesome program, it would be sad to miss out!
Blessings,
Syndee

| Please pray for our church (Browns UMC Jackson Tenn) after setting the date for our VBS then the date for the Youth mission trip got bumped up and now I have very little youth to help with my VBS. We are a small church but I pray each day to have a successful VBS. I know the congregation will come thru for me and the kids. in HIS name always

Jake, thank you for your prayers... we have rearranged the plan again. When I talked to people about helping with an August VBS this year, I basically got blank stares, or else they told me they just were not available. I've had too much on my plate lately to try to paddle upstream, so was about to call the whole thing off. I did have one woman who recently came on board who is very enthusiastic, and she got her husband coming up with ideas, too. So we talked about having it in the fall as a Friday evening, all-day Saturday and Sunday morning family "camp" event. I visited the adult Sunday School class this morning and pitched it to them and got much more response - from them and from others who talked to me after church. So it looks like that may be a go. Weather is nice here in October, that's a plus.
So, keep sending up those prayers! And anyone with Rome leftovers to sell, I'll probably be looking to buy...
