| I'm a volunteer youth leader looking for ideas in trying to motivate, encourage and challenge students to spend time in God's Word on a regular basis. I'm hoping someone has an idea that I could use in providing a simple reading plan, possibly with a printable hand out that would allow some observation, interpretation and application that students could use on a daily basis, something that could be done in 5 to 10 minutes would be the best. Thanks for the help. Big O

| There have been some helpful discussions in this forum on this subject. Try using the search tool to find it. Look for "Getting kids to read the Bible". My experience has been that kids do not want to read the Bible because they have very limited Biblical vocabulary skills. Even if they read it they have trouble understanding it. My of the words used are not taught in school because they just don't occur much anywhere else. My best plan is to get the parents to read to the kids after dinner each night with the kids following along in their Bibles.

Our students have really enjoyed the One Minute Bible. It gets them reading but only takes them One Minute...if they forget to read even for a few days it only takes them a few extra minutes to catch up.

Big O,
Are you looking for more of reading, study or memory? The One Minute Bible is beyond a great tool to get students in the Word. Have you thought about printing verses on keychains?

This may be of help to you. For our youth group we post the handouts on the youth group facebook page. The weekly handout has 5 days of devotions including a short Bible reading (1 chapter), a long reading (4 chapters), and a memory verse. Just look at the discussion board for "Handout". If you want any of the back handouts let me know. The verses apply to the lesson of that week, the short readings are (for the most part) the chapters that the memorization verses come from. The long reading chapters are going through the Bible in just over a year... 2 chapters in the OT, 1 chapter from the wisdom books, and 1 chapter from the NT. I hope that that helps.

Big O,
Assuming they have been taught why it is important for a believer to spend time in God's word, and assuming they see this modeled by their parents and other adults in the church:
SOAP
S - Scripture - write down the scripture address
O - Observation - what is happening in this passage of scripture?
A- Application - how does this apply to my life today?
P - Prayer - pray about applying and living out the word.
Someone showed me that and I think it's pretty good way to "journal"
