Someone who is currently or has used HOB grades 1-2: how much reading are the students asked to do? My small church is considering expanding the use of this curriculum into lower elem. grades and we were wondering if we need to buy these students their own Bibles at this level.
Thanks!

We do not require our 1st/2nd graders to read out of their Bibles.  We do have some younger kids in the group. We love the curriculum.  We did purchase one of the Hands-On-Bibles for the teachers.

We are currently using the grade 1&2 curriculum for Children's Church.  We have grades K-3 in the room.  I usually ask for a volunteer to read unless the passage has some harder words.  If that's the case then I just read the passage.  The curriculum is great!  I wish I had discovered it 2 years ago!

We also use this curriculum for a wide range of ages and usually ask for a volunteer to read.  I'd suggest you start with a minimum of 2 bibles--one for the teacher and one for a volunteer reader.  The kids respond well to the Bible (and some of the activities in the Bible) and like to look up the books on their own--which is good reinforcement for teaching the books of the Bible.

Thanks so much for everyone's responses. We're going to go ahead and get everyone a Bible. They'll need them eventually!
