| Another church was looking at KidsOwn Worship, and had a question about volunteers, among other things: I have been looking at different programs to adopt for an active and growing children's church- 4 year olds- 3rd graders. Honestly I have been leaning towards something else but am curious about KOW. Please provide any feedback you can re. # of volunteers needed, children's understanding of the lessons, complexity of preparation and worshipfulness. Thanks! --------------- Another church responded: The best thing about KOW is that it is part of FaithWeaver. That means that you can also incorporate activities from the Sunday School materials and the online tips to supplement what's in the program. Plus the music is great! I have to cover the Sunday School hour right through the church service, so I mix and match FaithWeaver Sunday School for various levels with KidsOwn Worship, and even some craft, snack and games ideas from FaithWeaver Friends. That's what sets it apart from other publisher's stuff, and even Group's other curriculum where different age groups have different lessons on the same day. Prep is fairly easy, although due to the nature of the activities, I'll grant that you have to get some pretty "odd" things now and then. But the kids love it for the most part. ------ And from my own experience: I lead KidsOwn Worship one summer as a Sunday school (fewer kids, fewer volunteers as our 'regulars' from the school year were on vacation). I found this easy to lead, easy to prepare for, and I needed few additional volunteers with little prep for them (I did gather supplies we didn't already have in our supply closet). I was the leader for the 'Let's Praise God' large-group time, with a few other volunteers in the room as extra hands as needed. I also called on the older kids to 'find a buddy' and 'adopt' a younger kid in the group. They were then, in a way, assistant leaders. These kids had a great time seeing the little kids look up to them, and the little kids were thrilled to have their attention. I also lead the elementary section of "Let's Learn the Point" with a helper, while two other helpers lead the same time with the preschoolers. Hope these ideas help you get started. Share your questions and thoughts! And God bless you and your ministry!
