With volunteer appreciation week coming up, I am looking for creative, inexpensive ways to celebrate the week. We are a small church with a small budget but I really want to do something. I have a few little ideas but I thought if there was some little thing to do each day of the week it would be cool. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

OK, this was really inexpensive, but touching. We did this last weekend for Children's Sunday and I've gotten several positive comments from our congregation. This is how we honored our teachers for less than $50 each.

We purchased 2 huge bouquets of lots of different flowers for the sanctuary. The flowers were to represent how many people from so many different walks of live and so many different professions serve in Children's ministry. Then we invited everyone who had served in Children's ministry to come forward as our children put flower leis around their necks.

Below is what we said....

The flower arrangements are symbolic for both our children and teachers here at ___. In the beginning every one of these flowers started out as a seed that was planted. With time and care the seeds eventually blossomed into a flower. Alone each flower is a unique masterpiece designed by our Creator. Our teachers here are as diverse as the individual flowers before you.

They are Nurses, Pharmacists, Electricians, Teachers, Builders, Seminary Graduates, Seminary students, Financial planners, Home School teachers, Software Engineers and Designers, Accountants, domestic engineers, empty-nesters, young parents, grandparents and expectant parents. Uniquely gifted and called to ministry.

In the hands of a designer, the flowers become one beautiful bouquet. In the hands of the master designer, our teachers blossom into an inspired and unified ministry team planting seeds of Jesus’ love in children’s hearts.

We invite every person who has served in Children’s ministry to come forward so the children can present you with a special flower lei as our special thank you….
