I am looking at Grapple for our Middle School ministry Sunday School; it looks like it would fit our group well, aside from a couple issues.  Our Sunday School time is 45 minutes tops, and closer to 30 minutes, as the middle school kids only go out during the sermon. I don't want to purchase the material if I end up scrapping half of each session; that would seem like a waste. I was wondering if it would be possible to split each lesson up into 2 sessions, and if that's possible, would I run into problems with the lesson disappearing from the website?

My other question is whether or not it is possible to conduct the lesson in one big group, instead of breaking into smaller groups, simply because of lack of available leaders?

The lessons could easily be shortened to a shorter class without losing much. In my opinion, the topics are worthwhile even as shorter lessons. There is a game time in the lesson plan that could be left out, since the game really does not relate to the lesson - it's just for fun. The Bible study portion usually focuses on 3-4 Bible passages, looking at the point from several angles. I often narrow that down to one or two passages, depending on time and the level of my students.

It is more difficult to stretch the lesson over 2 cl, since the activities are designed in a linear manner - an opening activity or game or question sets the stage for the Bible study, etc. If you want to split the lesson over 2 weeks you would probably need to think up an additional opening activity for instance. I have done that frequently though, when I thought a topic needed it, or if I had an extra activity that fit well.

Spreading the lessons over several weeks DOES interfere with the web site, if you use it. You do have the option to set the date for each lesson, so you can control which lesson shows up on the web site, instead of the automatic schedule. So that part is okay. But if you take too long, you will run out of time because they eventually remove the older lessons. A few others have pointed out the need for more time as well, so maybe this will change. We are still using the Winter quarter material near the end of spring quarter!

My class does not use the web site at all, so it works for me. I just save all the material I need off the web site at the beginning of each quarter, so I can use it when I'm ready. I create my own worksheets from the student web page to use in class instead of on the internet.

Yes, this is possible - I have done it both ways. You just have to adapt a little, depending on your students. You lose the "team" effect that way. If you have mature students and good student leaders, you could still do groups for some things, but it can work well for a large group without the team idea. It depends a lot on how much you are willing to adapt.
