Computerized with high detail. | | 4
Some kind of tagging system (bracelets, tags, etc.). | | 15

| | Hi Mark - Our church is about the same size as yours. We used a dual tagging system and a sign in/sign out log. We file the daily logs so we have a record of who signed a child in and who picked them up and also where the parent will be so we can find them if needed. We added the logs in addition to the dual tagging system. The first time a child comes to church, they register at our Preschool sign in desk. We prepare a dual tag with the child's name on each. We escort the child to their classroom. One tag goes on the child's back and the parent takes the other tag with them and turns them in when they pick their child up. Our Preschool director had a parent make ribbons on a ring that hand outside each classroom door. The dual tags are hooked together, clipped to the ribbon and taken down and stored when cl are not in session - keeps them organized and easy to read. I'm no attorney, but I feel certain that as liability goes, the more safety systems you have in place shows you are being diligent. However, being able to stand before the Lord and say we are doing all we can to keep His children safe is what allows me to sleep at night. Lisa B from NC

| | I've seen several types of saftey systems. The 1st one I ever used was a key ring tag system and they constantly got lost and had to be replaced. So we switched to a safety tag (sticker) and it worked great. We were a good sized nursery with 100 - 120 on Sunday mornings and this worked great! Parents filled out the stickers and put them on their childs back and they had a pick-stub with a matching # to retrieve their child. We got the labels from Safe Kids, Inc. their website is www.churchnursery.com . You can make your own with your church or ministry label or you can choose from several "stock" labels. The stock labels are the least expensive route. The church I'm at now did not have a safety system in place, there really wasnt a need with 8 children. Now we have about 25 children in the preschool and nursery area. Of course I know each family and child by name but our church keeps growing so I just recently implemented the Safe Kids tags here. Surprisingly, I didn't get very much resistence from any parents but my volunteers have heard complaints that parents feel its unneccessary. I just see a great potential for growth in our church and I figured I would get everyone started now so new members are used to it.

| | Hello. Just wondering what you do if there is more than 1 child per family? Does the parent get a tag for each? We use wristbands and write the number of the wristband we give to the parent on each of the children's wristbands. Trying to figure out an easier/better way. |

| | My Church here in Australia is fairly small, so pretty much everyone from our morning congregation knows all the kids and their parents, as well as when people are new or vivsiting so Sunday sign ins are not an issue. Our massive logistical nightmares arise every July when we run HAWK (Huge Awesome Week for Kids). this year we will be registering 250 kids - gulp - however when parents register (all on line), they must list authorised adults to drop off/pick up their kids and if their are any legally restricted people who must not have contact with their kids. Once kids are signed in, they enter the main body of the church building where no adults are allowed unless they have completed our Safe Ministry program and are authorised leaders, and these all wear name tags. At the end of the program, parents may enter the church to collect their kids, but leave via a side door, monitored by 2 other leaders so no kids 'escape' unattended, and return with their kids to hand in nametags and sign the kids out. For those kids with adult restrictions, the pick up/drop off adult must show their drivers license to our rego manager for verification. We are also very blessed that our rego team is formed mainly of mums who know the kids parents already, so what has been a muddle in the past now run very smoothly. Jenny Sydney, Australia
I believe "The Pilgrim' Progress" is the next greatest book after the Bible, and everyone should read it. |

| | Hi Jenny - We do a similar drop off/pick up procedure for Vacation Bible School preschoolers. The parents can only come as far as the preschool desk. We use walkie-talkies to call a leader from the class room to take the child from the preschool desk to their classrooms and use the same procedure when the parent/guardian comes to pick their child up at the end of the day. It's not only a safe secure way to make sure no child "escapes", it keeps classroom disruption to a minimum. I tell my workers not to hesitate to ask for a driver's license or ID if they don't know the person picking up the child. No one seems to mind that and it helps our workers learn the new parents/guardians names quickly. The first few years we tried this, even though we sent home a letter before Vacation Bible School to explain the safety reasons for the procedure, parents objected. However, once they saw how orderly the process was and how calm their child was when they left, they decided it wasn't a bad idea after all.

| | We currently have 100 children involved in our childrens ministry. We currently have a sign in system and nametags for our children. All of our leaders are wear the same shirts. We do not allow anyone with out a background check into are kids rooms. If we have a new parent they have to be accompanied by one of our leaders to enter the rooms to be shown around our childrens ministry area. I am currently trying to find a computer program that will track our attendence and have a barcode ID system. We currenlty use servant Keeper. Which currently has a barcode system to sign kids in so it can keep attendence but it will not sign a child out when the child leaves. It also does not have the capabilities to print PVC Nametags, they only have a way to print the sticker name tags but those seem to get torn up pretty quickly even when put on lanyards inside a plastic casing. I would love some input on a way to put this system in place, and if anyone does work with servant keeper some input on the program or another program to get. our budget is kinda tight though, due to econmy issues down here in SW Fla. Thanks |

| | We are a big church. We usually have a automated sign in for 1st grade to 6th. It will automatically print out a two fold tag. One for the kid and one for the parent when they pick them up. We assign workers at the door and check the matched tag upon check out. With younger kids, we have a two fold tag as well but not computerized. Its located outside each room. Parents need to fill them up and put the info/number on a master list. We do the same thing when checking out, match the numbers. Just like what YMCA is doing in their nursery department. Tags' numbers vary everytime for security purposes. If a child is assigned with the same number all the time, predators might take advantage of this. Nice
