I'm in the process of starting to work on my next year's calendar since our church year starts in the summer.  I have been using the caravan curriculm (a Christian version of scouts) on Wednesday night and some days I think it's working while other days it just flops!  I was wondering what you guys are using on Wednesday nights?  On Sunday mornings we have Kid's Worship and Sunday school, and On Sunday Nights we do a variety of different activities.  I'm just not sure I'm set on our wednesday nights.  I was just wondering what you guys use!

Have a wonderful day!

Christie

Hi there!

I can share some things I've heard or seen in practice, but before you decide what to use I'd encourage you to think about your goals for this time and what you'd like to accomplish. Are you looking for another opportunity to minister to the kids in your own church? Or do you want to reach out more to the community? Have your church's kids bring their friends? Go deeper into the Bible learning and application, or be more of an outreach? And what time do you have and what age levels are you reaching? Based on what you'd like to accomplish, I think you'll find different programs better suited based on those goals.

That said, I know a number of churches are using FaithWeaver Friends as their midweek program. It's built on a model like Group's Easy VBS (Fiesta, Avalanche Ranch, etc) where kids start with their small groups in a large group opening, rotate to different Discovery Centers to reinforce the Bible Point, and end with journaling time. If you've used Group's VBS, it will be easy to implement because you're familiar with the flow. And if you're using KidsOwn Worship for your Kids' Worship time, Friends will reinforce the same Bible story (with a focus on relationships and service). Download free samples at www.FWFriends.com and try it out.

We've had other churches use Group's Living Inside Out, too, for their midweek ministry. Check out a sample at www.GroupsLivingInsideOut.com. You can use the 12 themed modules (each is a month long) in any order.

Please share more of your goals, hopes, and dreams, and we'll see if we can provide more ideas for you. God bless you and your ministry!

I like to wait a few years and pull up material from past VBS. Because I did not do ST and LLI and because I have been blessed by the generous hearts of a couple of board friends we will be doing these for the first time!

For our Children's Wednesday night program, we write our own curriculum based on a nearby methodist church's Rotation program. We divide the kids into age-based groups, and ech week they go to a different room. We have a Bibke Story room, decorated like a Bible-Times desert house with a mural on the wall, an art room, a movie room, decorated like a movie theatre-burgandy walls, stadium seating, and the movie projected on the wall, and we are implementing a drama room this year. We will decorate it during the sumer. We painted the ceiling black last week, and plan to build a stage with curtains that will open and close, and with theatrical lighting, and paint the walls to match the curtains.

For many years, we used FWF (FaithWeaver Friends) which was a good program.  However, we got into the cycle where the new curriculum that was ordered had elements from past years.  When the kids start pointing this out--it is time for a change!

We switched to Living Inside Out--WHICH I LOVE!!!!!  It is an awesome program and the kids love it!  From preschoolers to 5th graders--EVERYONE stays on task and learns!  (How many curriculums can make this same claim?)  However, I am upset that Group isn't going to make more modules for LIO.  We have used all but the summer units but would love to keep this going in the fall!  If you use LIO and love it-email Group and let them know!  Who knows--we might just change their minds!!!

I too used FWF for many years but the same thing happened with our kids and they got bored so I began using Pioneer Clubs there curriculum isn't the most active but the concept is good. It creates wonderful samll groups for ages 2 all the way up to 7th Grade.

When its not too cold or snowy, we have soccar for the older youth and Bible Story Coloring/Crafts for the little ones. Then one of the ladies at our church helps to serve dinner to the kids. Sometimes its as easy as doing pizza, or sometimes she does hot dogs. Except for the really young kids, we do a 10 minute Bible Study as a part of dinner.

At our church the attendence is about 20 kids. Some kids come every week, some come 1-2 times a month. We use Wed. nights as an outreach, and the longer Bible Study is on Sunday's.
