| | We, youth or adult, Christians don't read the Bible because there is a lack of passion for Jesus Christ. When my wife and I were dating and she would send me a letter I would rip into it and read it over and over again. Why? I had a passion! (growl sound because my wife is a hottee) When students get passionate about Jesus they read His Word. There is a desire to grow closer to Him. I wonder how many students that have Christian parents see their mom or dad read the Bible? I grew up watching my dad read his Bible, my dad read the Bible with us, this had a huge influence on my life. I usually teach on this topic once a year as I cover the the fundamentals to spiritual growth in a 6 weeks series. I use the HABITS material from Doug Fields. I find HABITS is good stuffs. Because I use it every year I come up with new ways to package it. I issue the challenge for them to try it for 30 days. Many take the challenge, not all make it through but a few do and by the end of the 30 days they have established a habit of reading God's Word. I've had several tell me how reading the Bible is impacting their life. Idea - video a student that reads their word and have them share why they read it, what impact it is having on their life. Team up students interested in reading the Bible into pairs and have them study together and hold each other accountable. I've never offered money before, I've got very little of that. I do like the PPT game idea.

| Hello, I am a youth leader and am struggling with the same issue of getting them to read their Bible. I would love it if you could send me a copy of the Jeopardy game. My email address is: kkent@haloisp.net Also, I am completely new to this site and found an awesome freebie study last week called "Up with the Underdogs!". The study had the youth read together the book of Philemon and then break into groups for discussion and helped relate the way Paul related to people to the way we should relate to people. My youth group is BEGGING for their next year's curriculum to be done in this same format. I have to buy next years curriculum by next week but I am unfamiliar with any year long curriculum that is set up like this. I pray earnestly for help from anyone who could give me suggestions. Thank you!!: |

| | Homeschool Mama, My Youth Pastor just proposed a reading through the Bible challenge in a year. If so many people did it, he would shave his head. If more people did it, he would shave his armpits, etc. That's one idea. Another idea is to have prizes for reading the Bible in a year. An ipod, gift cards, etc. As for the curriculum, could you let me have some more information on that so I could help you? I would recommend Group's new Youth Curriculum, Core Truth. Here's some links to that. http://www.group.com/coretruth/ http://store.grouppublishing.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?item=1431174§ion=16882 From the way you described the currriculum, I believe that all Group's Youth Curriculum is like that. Here's a link where you can look at the different curriculums Group has for Youth Ministry. http://store.grouppublishing.com/OA_HTML/gpCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?WT.mc_id=HeaderNav_YouthMinistry&HeaderNav=YouthMinistry&WT.si_p=BC&WT.si_n=CCF§ion=10668 I hope this helps. | David,
I'm Matt McCage, Moderator of the Group and Simply Youth Ministry Forums. Being in ministry for 13 years I greatly appreciate your heart for getting God's Word into the hearts of His students.
Persistence is number one. Keep at it yet don't try to be their Holy Spirit. Get your hands on the One Minute Bible by Doug Fields. That has been an excellent resource for me in ministry. Let me know how it goes!

I too have had problems getting my kids motivated to read the bible. I would very much like a copy of this Jeopardy PPT as well. My email address is knaschorr@aol.com Thank you, Andrea Andrea, I sent you e-mail. The PPT file is large, 10 MB. It is generic, which mean that you have to fill in the questions and answers. If you are familiar of PPT it should be fairly easy. I have included instructions a the end. Or you can have someone more knowledgable help you set it up. Hope it helps some as it has helped us.
