| Hello all- I just wanted to post what we are doing this summer. Last summer we did an outreach for a local apartment complex. While others say it was successful, I felt it could've been a lot better. This year we are doing one month of summer outreach in July. I have ordered the Group book, "More than a Movie". We will be decorating our fellowship hall so it looks just like a theater. The 5 Weds. will lead up to our Croc Dock in August. We have free admission, free popcorn and best of all (in July) free cool air! I have already got permission to put out fliers in 7 different area schools. We also have some parents canvasing our neighborhood (including the complex) with fliers. They will also be building relationships with our visitors. It should be a lot of fun and I think have great impact on our community. We have noticed a lot of families looking for cheap or free activities. I'm sure that will increase during the summer months. I hope this is encouraging to some of you. We're really trying to reach out to our community and looking for effective ways to do it. This event will allow us to reach many with a small volunteer base. Have a great summer! Kate

We've done movie nights alot and to make it even more like a movie theatre, I purchase the small Dixie cups, lids and straws from one of the big box stores. I spent less than $20 for a large supply. The kids not only enjoy the cups with lid and straw, but it makes clean up a snap as well as reduces spillage to nil! Another thing we did to make it more like a real movie experience, we charged 25 cents for soda and a drink. The children really enjoyed making the purchase on their own and of course, refills were free!
One of our preschool moms said that the week after Movie night, she told her son they were going to see a movie. When they arrived at the theatre, he told her he didn't like that place, he wanted to go to "church movie"! How's that for customer satisfaction?
Sounds like you have a real heart for your community and that your outreach will have a huge impact on VBS participation!
