Hello,
I'm on a small committee of people who are researching new curriculum to use with our kids during Sunday School. We are interested in the Grapple for Preteens curriculum, but we have a few questions/concerns.
1.) It seems like each lesson is basically left up to the kids. What involvement does the teacher have? Is the teacher just there for supervision or do they actually teach the kids something?
2.) We like the questions that Grapple asks the kids and how it gets them thinking about real life situations. Is there a guide to Bible verses that go with the questions or is the teacher on his/her own to find related bible verses?
3.) Is there any way we could get a few sample lessons instead of just 1 sample lesson? We did sign up for the demo website and have explored a little bit. We see there are 3 sample pds on the teacher page, but I haven't been able to open them. It's really hard to make an informed decision with just one lesson.
Thanks for your time.
Beth

| Hi Beth, Thank you for your questions about Grapple! Here are the responses to your questions: 1) Question: It seems like each lesson is basically left up to the kids. What involvement does the teacher have? Is the teacher just there for supervision or do they actually teach the kids something? 1) Answer: Grapple was designed to get the kids to dig into their Bibles and to “grapple” with the information they found. For example, what does God say about..., what does that mean to them… how does this change them…The leader is more of a facilitator than a teacher/lecturer. They are there to guide discussion and discovery. The Bible backgrounds provided help the teacher know the direction we intended for the lesson. 2) Question: We like the questions that Grapple asks the kids and how it gets them thinking about real life situations. Is there a guide to Bible verses that go with the questions or is the teacher on his/her own to find related bible verses? 2) Answer: All the scriptures are included in the lesson. We also include a bible background for teachers in every lesson. If you interested in what Bible verses correlate with each lesson, click here to see the scope and sequence for preteen: http://www.group.com/ptgrapple/scopesequence.html and here for junior high: http://www.group.com/jhgrapple/scopesequence.html 3.) Question: Is there any way we could get a few sample lessons instead of just 1 sample lesson? We did sign up for the demo website and have explored a little bit. We see there are 3 sample pds on the teacher page, but I haven't been able to open them. It's really hard to make an informed decision with just one lesson. 3.) Answer: It sounds like we might need to upgrade your adobe reader if you are not able to open the lessons(no worries, this is a free download!) I would like to have one of our curriculum specialists to make sure that you can see all of the lessons. I have passed your contact information to the appropriate specialist. My other recommendation, if you haven't already, check out this website and click on the "Grapple Training" Video (it's near the bottom). This will show you how the scripture integrates into the lesson, and how the teacher engages with students. http://www.group.com/jhgrapple/index.html Beth - thank you so much for your great questions. Please feel free to email me directly at: ekelenc@group.comBlessings, Erin Kelenc Group Curricuum
