Hi Girls, I'm from central NC, and we also are doing Avalanche in June, but the great news is, we are taking our youth and doing the same VBS in NH in July!

My church is Belmont, NC (just outside Charlotte.)

I am praying that we reach 40 kids this year.  Our program is June 18-22.

Cheryl or Lynette,

Our VBS is July 22-27.  I would love to get together for coffee or a soda and get ideas and network with you guys.  I am not having much support from my church.  Every year I go through the same thing of no one wants to volunteer to help they want me to come and ask them personally.  They say no one asked them to help so they did not thank that they were needed!  I announce signing up for helping with bible school at every service and no one signs up!  Just venting sorry!  728-3081 or 292-3239.  I work at a school part time but I would love to have some fellow VBS workers to help cheer each other on and work together.

Hey Misty,

Don't let it get to you. After years and years of being a VBS director, the one thing that I have learned about church people is that no matter how many times you get up in front of them and announce and ask and ask and announce, they do not respond until you actually get on the phone, or talk face to face and give them that personal invitation. I mean even the nicest people at my church don't commit until I ask them. Their response is often the same, "oh, I meant to call you," or "I was going to call you."

It took me several years to "get it," but now I just immediately get on the phone after I've had things in print (bulletin, church newsletter, bulletin board display), and say "I hope you've had a chance to see how exciting this year's VBS is going to be, and I was wondering if you would be available to help."  I even go into how excited I am with one or two things (which was easy for me this year, because this year is our first Group VBS). Believe me the excitement can be very contagious.

So chin up, and just be resolved that you will have to give personal invitations. It's the nature of the VBS recruiting beast.

Good Luck

Allison in NC!

Hi Jennifer in Newport!  I am Jennifer in Morehead City!  We are doing AR the week after yours (July 16-20), so ....I sure would love to borrow or take away any decorations you want gone at the end of your week!  I would like to be of help to you to, though.  Let me know what you are praying for!!!!!

I am directing our VBS at First United Methodist Church (9th and Arendell).  If you need to contact me, I guess you could call there and they could get back to me (I'm not sure we're allowed to post phone #s here).  OR, you could just e-mail me directly as I don't get to this forum all that often.  I'm at mbell@ec.rr.com.  I wonder if I already know you??!!!!    God WILL Bless your VBS!!!!
