We did an Egyptian theme a couple years back - Here's a couple pictures, 'cuz I know that's the first thing I look for when getting ideas to decorate - PICTURES!  I'll see if I can't find more if people are interested.

Those look great. How did you make the runner between the pews?  Also, how did you make the one white column?  Yes, more pictures would be great.

Looks great!  Do you remember how you made the white one?  Anyone know how much foam board we will need for Eygpt?!!  Gotta love how easy that is!! As you find more pictures, I'd love to see them!

In 2008 we did a VBS of our own creation called Moses' Exodus Adventures.  Here are pictures of some decorations. All I did was find photos of real tomb paintings from the web, print them out and make transparencies. I painted these on white bulletin board paper, but they would work just as well on the famous styrofoam we all love.

What a great idea!!  I love it!  We do love the styrofoam, but this might even be better for our church area!!  Could even start now!! YEAH!!!  Thank you for the idea!

The runner was a bolt of cheap canvas fabric and we drew it out in pencil and painted it with leftover paints from previous VBS's - so probably indoor house paint.  The white pillar is two cardboard rolls normally made for concrete forms (sold in hardware stores) stacked on top of each other and coated in the stuff you use to texture walls (spackle with sand in it?).  The top is a plastic planter and the base is an upside down terracota bowl/planter.  The rest is paint and it's all held together with that beautiful invention PowerGrab!

We did an Egyptian theme in 2008.  I decorated the stage to look like the inside of a tomb.  Put a canvas drop cloth down first.  Then our "pillars" were wrapped with plastic gold table cloth.  I used blue plastic table cloths to make a stream running through the tomb.  Also decorated the pillars with cutouts of stars & moons brushed with glitter glue.  I had planned to make a reed boat out of foam noodles with wrapping paper tubes for the uprights & a poster board roof but ran out of time/steam.

Here are some more pics:

There were flashlights in the torches (Paper Mache' and Tissue Paper - held on with gold shower curtain rings and leather straps attached to the wall with upholstery tacks) so this hallway really looked like you were entering a tomb.

We did another hallway as the Nile....hid ends and fronts of inflatable crocs (really cheap at Deals in the summer) in foliage.

Here's my fav - we made this out of ply wood & 2x4's - painted it and then threw sand on it before it dried

The Stage - save all your scraps of foam and paint them yellow - they make great little sand dunes!  The tent was for our puppet, Egypt Eddy (A camel in sheik clothing).

And a sarcophagus made of tomato cage and paper mache'.  The wall hanging was papyrus looking wall paper and markers

Enjoy and happy decorating all you VBS Junkies out there!
