selling anything doesn't work because the schools tap people out on that one.
We do car washes and make as much as $700 per car wash. We also had big success on preselling tickets to a bbq dinner.
Tonight they had a hair cut a thon at the church and licensed hair stylists and a chair massage dude gave their services in exchange for donations. Big turnout!

I'll start off with what's worked well...
Each year our town has a huge crab carnival and they do a hot dog and water booth and make a great deal of money. (I started this position the month after said carnival, so I'm only going by what I've heard...)
We're having a fund raising dinner in the next few weeks, but you can only have so many of those before volunteers start disappearing and people get burnt out attending them... Maybe if we did a family movie and baked potato dinner (with a ton of toppings) night every couple of months? I'm just a little nervous of the initial expense if not enough people show up to make it worth while!
I know that selling anything won't work for the exact reasons just mentioned... school's fill that quota, and no one has money to buy overpriced junk nowadays anyway! The discount card programs are a huge pain...
I'm just looking for some fresh ideas! We'll definitely do a car wash this summer though!

Keep-em comin'! The more ideas the better.
One idea i really love and really want to try out some time is Seeding. You start out with a message on the parable of the talents. Proceed to give each student $5-10 for them to use the skills they have and try to multiply that seed money. Possibly give them a couple of examples of ways to multiply that money. Give them 3-4 weeks to see how much they can multiply what has been given them. At the end of the time they return with the $5-10 unused, or if they used it, the proceeds.
I love the idea because it gives the youth the opportunity to use their skills naturally and understanding that they have the skills to survive and thrive. Obviously some students will need more help than others figuring out how to apply their skills.

| Growing up our youth group did several fund raisers each year to help us pay for our youth convention. We had speghetti dinners for Valentines day and sold tickets ahead of time. Some of the youth dressed up in black & white and served, two of us sang, and others cooked and cleaned up. We offered babysitting for a donation at church a couple of times during December so parents could go shopping. Also we did yard work for people at our church for donations also. Hope some of this helps!

| How about a concert. We will come out and provide a national band like Tenth Avenue north for your event. The cost to you is free as long as your church is willing to host the event and provide some volunteer support. We handle everything from ticketing to travel and everything in between. | Don't forget babysitting - Set-up a couple of day's/evenings for parents to go out. With Christmas coming up a Saturday Morning Childcare at the church is probably a priceless gift to parents who can accomplish more without there blessings in toe. Our youth provided childcare at the church (pizza, games, movies) on Valentines last year and it was great to see parents who can't usually afford and evening out take advantage of a "donation" based evening. It raises money for you and is a blessing to the parents!
Blessings

Host a TACKY TACO NIGHT. People come in wearing something "tacky". Have warm hard and soft tacos, cooked ground beef/turkey, grilled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, salsa sauce, carrots, corn, black beans, black olives. We charge $2 for a taco and a soda and give a prize to the person wearing the tackeist outfit! Or how about a DREESS YOUR SUNDAE BEST NIGHT where people can make their own sundaes. Have ice cream, bananas, ship cream, M&Ms, peanuts, almond, reeses, chocolate chips, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, crunch, frosted flakes, and a few others). We charged $3 per sundae plus, gave a prize for the best decorated one (not the one with the most stuff! )
