Hello, all you VBS nuts out there! I love you guys!!
If you are a VBS nut like me, you have already checked out HLA for next year, Egypt: Joseph, from Prison to Palace. I have already been brainstorming what I can save and use for next year. I figure that my bricks can be saved as is...my boulders can be repainted in tan to have a more sandstone look....and my columns can be repainted in tan as well. Does anyone else have any more ideas for converting Rome into Egypt? I'd hate for us all to throw away something that may turn out to be useful.
So, what do you have in mind??

You'll probably be sorry you read this post, but in addition to not throwing anything out, you should make a list of what you do have and where it is stored. Give complete descriptions and maybe even attach a photo, then put them in a notebook and leave it somewhere accessible at your church. That way, if you don't end up directing next year, the next person has something to go on.

A few things you should never, ever, ever lose are: tarps, jump ropes, hula hoops, and those hard plastic wading pools. We've found a use for them in every VBS I can remember, regardless of the theme. That corrugated paper with the stone motif is also pretty useful.

Ditto on saving the jump ropes, hula hoops, tarps, wading pools, etc.  In addition I'd also save various size balls, all the sheets used this year, as well as the columns

I can't wait to get my hands on that starter kit. I was bummed today when I went to order it and saw it won't be shipped until Dec. 9. Bummer!!! Save those columns, friends, and paint them sandstone! :o)

HA! As if I would ever end up NOT directing Bible School. Our pastor has wheedled the promise of at least 2 more years out of me.

Yes, I think the columns as well as the boulders will look great painted in sandstone. I am just going to break down the "boulders" into flat sheets of cardboard and then next summer we can re-tape them and dab a bit of sandstone colored paint on top of the gray paint that is already there. Of course, all of the hula hoops, balls, etc. are already stored in their well labeled boxes. Ferns and plastic flowers might not be so useful in Egypt, but we'll keep them nonetheless.

Oh, my pastor reminded me that at the time Joseph arrived in Egypt the pyramids weren't built. I'll have to double check his history, but it seems to me that he is right. There goes my idea of the huge pyramid in the sanctuary. Rats......

Thanks for the comments, everyone! See you in Egypt next year!

I think we should use pyramids anyway.  Group even has them on their promos!!  They are just such a fun and easy way to say "Egypt."

Yes, I think even if they aren't historically accurate, we should use them anyway. Besides, what kid is going to question Joseph seeing the pyramids in Egypt? For that matter, what grown-up would question it?
Thanks! Amanda
