Although we encourage pre-registration, we allow walk-in registrations on the first day of VBS and therefore open the church a half-hour early. Last year it was rather chaotic as children were running around while their parents filled out the registration paperwork. Luckily, we had lots of lab and science-y things for kids to play with. I have no idea what to do with them this year. What do you do with kids when they first arrive on the first day? How do you connect a child with their crew leader? How can we keep them busy and engaged until we're ready for the program to start?

We have activity pages available to help keep the children busy while Mom/Dad go through the registration process.  We have word searches and mazes for the older/Elementary age and coloring pages for the preschoolers.  It seems to do a good job to keep them busy for the time during registration.

I create these activity pages myself by either making up my own word search or finding resources online.
