Our Bible Bayou class is held in a small classroom for 8 - 12 kids and a crew leader each rotation.  I am stumped on how to create the red sea parted without taking up the whole classroom.  Any ideas??  Also, our Bible school is this week, so I only have the next three days to get it done, so it will have to be something fairly simple.  Give me your ideas.....P L E A S E!!!!!   (That's begging in email).  LOL

I have just the opposite issue -- very large room.  Maybe I'm wrong, but the Group idea of slinging a blue tarp (which is way too small for our room), would work great for you.  If you don't have anything to attach the tarp to, you could always use a ladder for each side (this would also give your backstage volunteer a little height from which to spray down water as the kids pass through).  Just an idea..

We are using partitions from other parts of the church to create our sea walls, but last year, I used coat racks for one of the skits and they might be a better size for a small room.  If your church has any rolling coatracks, you might try duct-taping two tarps between them to create the effect...

We have a long room but its still not a huge room . We hang stuff from the drop ceiling .  Paper clips come in handy to hang.

 God bless

Think outside the box a little here, too.  Is there a hallway in your church that isn't being used for VBS?  If so, can you turn that into your Red Sea?  Nothing says they can't wander back to your room AFTER they've been through the sea!

We had a HUGE room so I couldn't hang anything from the ceiling (too high) and things sort of get lost in there.  (Our 12x8' house sat in the corner and was never even in the way!)  So we used the entryway instead of the room itself.  Pictures are posted in my Bible Bayou updates thread.

I found some brown plastic tablecloths at Party City so are using those for the floor of the sea. The kids will walk across on those. Planning to hang blue tablecloths down from our ceiling to make the sides of the sea. Hang some pictures of fish on the blue walls or leave plain. Kids feeling the mist from the spray bottles will make it come alive.

The blue tarps hanging from the ceiling worked well for us. We put it in a little spare room off of the main room. Maybe you could just hang one from the ceiling up against one of your walls. Here are a couple of pictures: The first shows the "Red Sea". The black tarp was closed until Moses raised his staff, then a helper quickly taped it open. The 2nd pic. shows the parted sea. There were plastic fish on the "dry path" and taped onto the outside of the tarps. One helper sprayed water over the top of the tarp while 2 helpers shook the tarps to make it look like waves. When the kids walked through the opening, they had to make a sharp turn in order to go through the parted sea.

I used this site to make the Red Sea warning signs. It's free, fast and easy, and a lot more professional looking than anything I have the time to come up with myself!
