I am a 35 yr. old paid part time youth/children's minister. When I was your age I felt God leading me to work in his church. After a life of running from Him, I now want to serve Him with everything. I worked in every and any ministry volunteer for 4 yrs., mostly children's ministry. God blessed me with advancements in my secular job and a beautiful family. About 4yrs ago I was asked to help start a new church in our area and lead the children/youth ministry for a small part time salary. I have recently decided to go back to school to strengthen my ministry, study habits and spiritual life. I hope by doing this I will become a better follower of Christ, better husband, better father, and overall better person. Over the last year or so I have really felt a leading to focus more on youth ministry(Jr./Sr. High). I am going to have to make some tough decisions very very soon, but I have to make sure I do not take time away from my first ministry.....MY FAMILY.....Wife first...... then kids. I just might be right where He wants me. Be sure to get into God's Word daily and earnestly seek His strength in your prayer life.  I hope this helps.

Serving His youth and their families,
Jeff Greenwell

thank you everyone for your responses...

Since this post started we have gone through quite a bit as a church. I ended up preaching almost every other week during the pastoral candidacy period and the church board thought it nothing but fit to pay me a little something for my sacrifice, which was greatly appreciated by my wife and I.

Now we have a new pastor who has just come in with fresh life and is making moves to see the church come to a point where they can start paying me part time. We have a goal of January to add me to the staff at a minimum of part time, we are praying and shooting for full time status.

I have had to say no to soooo many things over these last several months. But that little word has kept my stress level down and kept my wife happy with me.

It's great to hear all the good news!! I just want to remind you that saying no is not only good for your stress level and your marriage, but it's also good for your ministry! You want to set a good example to the kids, too, so that they see a man with a healthy marriage who is not overworked and frustrated, but happy with his choices and able to do well what he chooses to do.

So keep up the good work!!

The Bible does say that God's power is perfected in weakness... I guess that means we should be seeing God's power just explode all over this place. - Brian Brophy

I have been a volunteer youth leader for both the middle and high school age groups for almost a year. I got recruited by the former youth leader right before he left to take a PAYING youth pastor position in another city. It has been overwhelming for me. I work a 50-hour a week job and there are youth nights when I don't have anything planned and I just "wing it." I hate doing that and get discouraged sometimes.

I lead the middle school group followed immediately by the high school group on Sunday evenings.

I have an assistant who makes it to one meeting a month...so it's basically me - the lone ranger. I have so many ideas for things that I want to do, but there is just no time.

Just today, the pastor came and told me that he thought he had someone else interested in helping me...PRAISE GOD!!! I am waiting to hear back from him on that.

Still, I know that God has called me to do this and I am honored to serve in this manner...I just need some help!!

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24
