Metropolitan-New York area Presbyterian (USA) church congregation seeks Christ-centered, organized, creative, experienced individual for full-time youth director position.Must have a heart for teens and pre-teens. The successful candidate will have the ability to relate to youth in a contemporary and relevant way. College degree and three years experience in youth ministry preferred. Musical abilities helpful. A joyful heart, a lively Christian faith, and abilities to plan, communicate in various ways, and administer and teach are all necessary skills.
Central Presbyterian Church is located in the heart of Summit, NJ, a short walk from the train station. The large campus offers many spaces for all kinds of activities for the 500 active members. A contemporary worship service is in the design phase. The busy congregation requires staff who know how to create opportunities for ministry that are manageable but significant.
The congregation has served Summit and the region for over a century providing a witness to Jesus Christ in the Reformed Tradition through the Presbyterian Church (USA). The successful candidate need not be Presbyterian, but must be willing to nurture our youth employing a theology and practice consistent with our beliefs and traditions.
A comfort with various software applications, graphic arts, and various digital communication means (texting, tweeting, Facebook, etc.) are essential in the practice of ministry with today's youth.
Youth Ministry at CPC includes two weekly fellowship gatherings for Middle Schoolers and for Senior Highs. A year-long Confirmation and Commissioning Class is offered for Senior Highs. Retreats, mission trips and experiences, Lock-Ins, concerts, and other activities highlight the year. Middle Schoolers go away to a youth conference each summer, and Senior Highs travel to a work camp. The Youth Director is expected to spend time off campus supporting our youth in their various school and community events.
The Director of Music offers opportunities for singers in the Youth Choir and for bell ringers in a bell choir. Youth also participate in our boards and various ministries, including our TV station, CPC TV.
Colleagues of the Youth Director include a full-time Children's Ministry Director, two pastors, and a support staff of 8. An office with phone, lap-top computer, and full support equipment is provided. An expense allowance and funds for continuing education in the field are also available.
Benefits are offered through a "cafeteria" plan. Salary is commensurate with experience and degree work. Ordained persons may apply but ordination is not required.
Start date is targeted for late August, but is flexible. Current Youth Director is available until September when she expects to move with her husband to his new call as pastor.
