Several months ago, I saw on one of the many forums I frequent (and I don't remember which one:crying , an idea for a Halloween alternative . . .The idea . . . A Great Pumpkin Party . . . Children watched the Charlie Brown DVD; painted mini pumpkins and there was a discussion of how Christians are a lot like Linus and should wait for the return of our Great One even IF it seems like the world is have a lot of fun and is calling us names. The majority of our youth are preschool - 2nd grade; this sounds like a wonderful way to connect with them via a forum that is fun, age appropriate, and through something that they'd be familiar with and would readily understand. I would love to communicate with the original poster of this idea to discuss ways of presenting this to this age group and am hoping that you can point me in the right directions OR if you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them as well. I am a fairly new volunteer with no previous children's ministry experience; however, I come to this with a love of children and strong desire to bring them to Christ, to encourage them in their relationship with Christ and to encourage them to serve Christ, the church and the community. Thank you for your time. T

I'm new to the children's ministry too and eager to grow our little group! This is a great idea! I'm not that poster but just wanted to say that I like it!

| We do a Shine festival with hay rides, games, cake walk and such. But another idea is a trunk or treat where everyone puts candy in the truck and park out in the parking lot and the kids go trunk to trunk to get candy.

| I attened a seminar with Craig Jutila and bought his Fear Knot dvd. There are about 6 different lessons on it with curriculum to follow. I think you can get different age levels. Fear of spiders, snakes, dark, drowning, ect. I showed Fear of Spiders last year with popcorn on the Wednesday night before Halloween along with games. So, I didn't ignore Halloween, but we put a twist on the scarey with putting our trust in God. I have ages 3yrs-5th grade. Krista in Caledonia, MI
