Share your questions and ideas here about Rescue 911. For example, we had a church get Rescue 911, and they were excited to hear we had a Salvation theme, but wondered about an invitation for kids to respond to the Salvation message:

"We love LIO and it's unique and relevant approach to teaching the Bible, but I am a bit shocked that there is not an invitation for the kids to respond to the Salvation message in this session.  Isn't that why we do what we do?   I am hoping that I just missed it on one of the pages...  I'll keep looking!

We will incorporate an opportunity for the children to accept Christ during the last week of the Salvation theme. I am wondering what the rest of you think?

This is my first time participating in the forum, but I read and learn from it all the time! I have noticed how Group has truly responded to the many requests and ideas.  Each kit is better than the last. I am hoping that this one was just an oversight."  ~LauraBinCA

dcrockett replied to her:

"Having used Group material for both VBS and tradional Sunday School, I know that you have to put an invitation to receive Christ as Savior into the program yourself. That is because the most they usually tell you is "now might be a good time to ask children to make a 'faith commitment,' if that is in keeping with your tradition." And occaisionally I've seen an outline for taking a child through the decision. I will certainly do so on Easter Sunday, which is when I've scheduled the thief on the cross lesson. Let the Lord lead you as to how and when you will do it."

And she's right--we try to provide opportunities (and even point them out, which perhaps we can revisit if we've missed it here), but leave the what and how up to you, since that varies by church.

God bless you and your ministry!

For lesson 3, the supply list calls for black fabric and a disappearing ink fabric pen.  We have some mark b gone markers that I tried on black fabric that did not show on it.  Is there a different type of disappearing ink fabric pen that does work on black fabric?

We picked up a disappearing fabric marker at Michael's crafts, but it's purple. What is the desired effect supposed to be?

Hi,

The point of the disappearing marker is to show how sin makes our lives dirty, but with God's forgiveness, our sin can be erased. If you cannot find a marker that works on black fabric, you can also try it on a lighter fabric although sometimes it doesn't come off as cleanly. The purple marker should work depending on the color of fabric you have.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

God bless,

Yes, I read the lesson in detail, and I now see that the color of the fabric really doesn't matter. It's that the disappearing ink should vanish when it gets wet. So I wonder why Group said to use black?

Yes, I decided just to use some leftover muslin that we had.

Two observations for Lesson 3:

Words cannot express the childlike glee my daughter and I had playing with the rubbery goop created by mixing white glue and liquid starch as we tested it last night!  I predict the kids will love it. This is part of the Preschool small group activities.

Also, the balloon pop for large group works best if the two balloons are the same size, and if the outer balloon is infalted just slightly larger than the inner one - otherwise your pin won't be long enough to reach the inner one. Also, you could've warned us that the outer balloons do eventually burst as the hole widens under the tape! It scared the fuzz off of us when we tested it!

Balloons -- yes, it helped when the balloons were the same size and the outer one is just slightly more inflated so that the pin reaches the inner balloon.  Another tip -- blow them up just prior to using them. I made some on Friday for Sunday and the balloons lost some of their elasticity by then.  I made some an hour in advance and those still worked pretty well.

Glue goop -- we could NOT get this to work after probably trying four times and gave up.  We used elmers glue and liquid starch.  Did you use a different type of glue?  Maybe tacky glue would be better?

The secret to the glue goop is in the consistancy - You need to add the starch slowly, and keep stiring. Like the instructions said, if it gets too stringy, it's toast, and you need to start over. When done right, it actually changes three times. First to a gelatinous blob, then to a sort of "silly putty", then to a cold rubbery stuff. It even bounces on a hard surface! As predicted, our K-1 group had a ball with it. And most of them actually "got" the point that the stuff changed to something else, a
