I'm starting to look for things for the dock that look like cargo-  burlap sacks tied with rope or twine (or make them), keg shaped anything that can be made to look like banded wood but inexpensive, and crates.

Also scouting for a ship's steering wheel, anchor, spy glass out of light weight materials. I think we are going to use the clipper ship pattern link already posted plus our left over dock from this year.

Last but not least, oops paints in blues but will buy full price if needed.

Stumps has a woodgrain paper for about $20 for 50x4' roll.  I'm keeping my eye on that and thinking about ordering a couple of rolls when I get back from vacation.  That would make shipbuilding pretty easy.....  I'm thinking that we will create the hold of a ship for the entrance to storytime next year.  So I'll also need to create crates, burlap sacks, barrels, etc.

I'm seeing AR barrel ideas coming back to life

http://myvbshome.info/vbs2007/Decorations.htm#Barrels

And maybe a wagon wheel turns into a captains wheel

I'm so glad PastorJoe has kept his old site up

God Bless!

Maps would be great too. There are free ones at some truck stops. Something to look for on vacation anyways. Old globes or maps at garage sales.

I just purchased my first item for High Seas, I was at Dollar Tree and spied pirate die-cut shapes. It comes with treasure chest, map, hat, sword and sailing ship. I think I will enlarge them and use the pattern for station signs, Bible points and such. Our VBS ended last week and I'm already going through withdrawl!!!

I am definately keeping an eye out for white sheeting and rope.  We already planned on making our stage a ship and hanging large sheets for sails with wire so they are bowed out like the wind.  I saw on the video a "cannon" with a fog machine inside?  Definately doing THAT.  Plus a crow's nest, steering wheel, planks, etc.
