Hello,

Our church has decided to make the prayer bears for VBS but also wants to buy extra to make for the church to give out to the community or sick children as well.  We are a small church with a limited budget and can not afford to buy the Bible Book for each kid (which I know contains the Survivor Bible)  So we were going to just buy the Survivor Bible sperate for $.99 each.  Does anyone know if it is necessary to have a survivor bible for each bear that is sent?   Or can we send out 50 bears and only 25 survivor bibles?  Do we need to have the Survivor Bible at all, can we just send the bears?   Also, can we make up our own note insert for each bear, or does it have to be the one that Group offers?  Also, I would like our kids to have a better understanding about the kids in Africa and I don't feel that Group offers us enough information for us to share with the kids.  There should be a video or resource that we could use to share with our students about the orphans in Africa and why it's important for us to send these bears.  The only thing I've see so far is posters of some really happy African kids, but they don't tell the true story.   Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks for your time.

Karen

Karen,

Your question came up before about the Prayer Bears and Survivor Bibles. I think that it's okay if they all don't have a Survivor Bible but I'm not completely sure. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

With the little message that the kids make and put into the pocket of the Prayer Bear, I think that that has to be the message page from the Bible Book. Group wants all of the Prayer Bears the same so that one child doesn't get discouaged because of what another ones has that they don't have.

God Bless,

You don't have to have that same slip from the book. We made prayer bears at Childrens Ministry Magazine Live and we used index cards.

Hello all,

Our church has decided to do the bears and wanted to know if we could do own letter and maybe a picture of the child that did the bear.  Also if we have the kids write a letter can they put the address on the letter and will they get a response back, like a penpal thing??  Can anyone shed any light on this

Thanks and God Bless

Steph

Hey Steph,

I was fortunate enough to go on two OK2K trips (DR 2 years ago after Lava Lava) and Bolivia (with Fiesta blankets just last month)...and YES, YES, YES--please do write them a letter and include photos! The children LOVED receiving simple letters that read "Jesus loves you, and we're praying for you" along with pictures... we realized that these children really want to make a connection, especially when they learned that the blankets and prayer bears were put together by children in the US/Canada... As for the pen pal thing, I'm not sure that the children in Africa will write back (or they may write back but not too sure about them being sent), but I guess it's worth a try...

We're planning on putting the pictures on the Survival booklets (cover page) at our VBS (which is THIS WEEK!)... we were hoping to find izone camera film for the bear, but we didn't have much luck (and the ones we found were way too expensive)!

HAPPY VBS!!!

ps... tracy, thanks for posting the pics... it was great to see them!
