Director of Student Ministries

First Presbyterian Church of Bakersfield, CA is an active and growing downtown congregation of 1000 active members. We seek a Christ-centered leader who can provide leadership and oversight to all student ministries, 7th-college. Position supervises full-time Director of Jr. High Ministries and Administrator of Student Ministries. This person will be directly responsible for all Sr. High Ministries, accountable to the Executve Pastor and the CE Committee of Session.

We seek someone called to Youth Ministry as a career, several years' experience preferred. Must be a capable organizer, recruiter, and a Christian of both emotional and faithful maturity.

Full Description

Basic Foundation:
This position requires a dedicated, Christ-centered leader who will provide growing, healthy ministries to youth and their families, working by the light of scripture to fulfill the most worthwhile mission aims and ministry goals.

Nature and Scope of Responsibilities:
This person will be responsible for the Student Ministries at First Presbyterian–7th grade through college–guided by the Christian Education Committee and reporting to the Executive Pastor.

Ministry Goals
Glorifying
1.Provide opportunities to worship: praising and glorifying God.
2.Empowering and training new worship leadership.
Gathering
1.Shape a ministry where students belong and build relationships with other Christians.
2.Meeting regularly with students and prospective fellowship members.
3.Offer a variety of entry points that would attract students from the greater Bakersfield area who are currently uninvolved in the church.
4.Facilitate a relational ministry environment, connecting personally with students and their families.
Growing
1.Direct programming toward a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
2.Provide opportunities for students to grow deeper in discipleship, and modeling that relationship.
3.Provide opportunities for the students to grow spiritually with each other.
4.Equip the students to discern between kingdom values and values of our culture.
Giving
1.Help students to identify and maximize the use of their spiritual gifts.
2.Challenge students in the faithful stewardship of their time, treasure and talents.
3.Challenge and provide opportunities for students to faithfully serve peers, church, community, and world.
Going
1.Equip and empower students to impact the world for Christ.
2.Provide and promote mission opportunities locally and abroad.
3.Prepare students for a life of missionary service to the kingdom.
Leadership
1.Direct responsibility for leading Sr. High Ministries.
2.Meets regularly with staff, Executive Pastor, and CE Committee.
3.Meets with and provides direction for the student ministries team, including the Director of Jr. High Ministries, Youth Administrative Assistant, interns, and parent/other adult volunteers.
4.Build a team of volunteers that will share in accomplishing the ministry goals.
5.Organize and implement the workflow so that the ministry runs smoothly.
6.Create and maintain a Ministry Management Plan in conjunction with the church’s five goals (Glorifying, Gathering, Growing, Giving, Going).
