I'm just wondering how we compare to other churches as far as VBS budgets go.  What is the size of your church and VBS (kids attending, crew leaders) and what do you typically spend on your VBS program?  Also, how much do you take in for donations?

This was my first year as a director, and I'm on board for 2010 also, so I'm trying to get as much info as I can!  Thank you ahead of time!!

We have a church attendance on Sunday Mornings of about 180. About 100 kids from our church and the community attend VBS. Our VBS budget is $1000. We put up a 'wall of need' so the church people can bring items in.

Remember to have Jesus as your friend!

This was the first year we did a "wall of need", and we had an AWESOME turn out!  We posted the fireflies from the Croc Dock curriculum, and they were a hit.

So did you guys buy the Bible Buddies and workbooks?  Those alone for 100 kids are close to $800!  We did that last year, and I chose to forego those two things this year to save money.  But then I feel bad for not getting those things.

We'll be doing a lot more fundraising this year, throughout the year, so hopefully that will help.  My goal is to make enough in fundraising and donations to break even on VBS in 2010.

We had 61 this year, 40 leaders, and we expect 80 students next year. We are a new ministry, so that growth is expected. We are budgeting $1800 for next year, and that's about what we spent this year. We borrowed the backdrop and some decorations and will again. We did not buy student books or buddies, nor did we buy Group's crafts. We did provide staff t-shirts, which were about $7 a piece, and we did craft t-shirts for kids on Thursday night, and those totaled about $5 each. We recruited a local youth ministry to be crew leaders, so we fed them each night. We had about 18 for suppers, which cost around $25 each night. We figure it came to about $30 per student. Is this in line with the expected cost for others?

We have anywhere from 90-100 kids, my budget is $3000 and I buy the buddies, books, Group's crafts and each child receives a free CD. All workers get a free t-shirt.

I get $1,600 a yr for VBS. We usually get about $200 or $250 in donations. We have quite ordering the books and only get the Bible Buddies for the Pre-school. We also order the kids tee shirts and sell them for $1.00 more than what we pay for them. This helps a little. Usually I do very well budget wise, but I am afraid that I will be over budget this year. We usually have about 80 in attendance.

Church Size = 60 to 75

VBS Students = 80 (20 preschool / 60 elementary)

VBS Staff = 35 to 40 (20 crew leaders / 15 to 20 station leaders)

VBS Budget = $1,500

Order from Group = Starter Kit, Bible Buddies, some crafts (the ones that are $0.50 or less), God Sighting Lights & Bracelets

Order 130 t-shirts locally @ $3.50/each

Do not order student books, I make our own up

Well we have a very small budget. This year I was given 200.00 and someone in the church donated 250.00 thank the good Lord! My family (pastor's family) came 3 years ago to this church and at the time we had 20 people and 2 kids..one being my child. We now have about 100 people 120 if everyone showed up at the same time...lol and about 25 kids. We did VBS last year for the first time at this church. We ran about 40 kids. This year I am planning for 50 kids. I have only gotten the 450.00 which does not go far at all. I purchased the starter kit, Bracelets, Bible buddies & sight lights...I am really excited for the sight lights this year. I could not order the crafts, books etc. I really hate that but it is just too expensive. I am making most of our decorations etc which costs money but I will have to cover it..which is not easy being a single mom...but this is for the Lord and I am praying God will really minister in our community. Our men's group is planning a cook-out Friday nighht and providing everything for it so we can reach all the kids, parents grandparents etc. There is a lot of cost and work involved in a VBS, but if just one child gets saved or recommits their lives to Jesus...it is so worth it! I am so excited for VBS this year I cannot wait!

We had around 80 kids, and our kids have always loved the Bible Buddies and Group Publishing crafts so we use those every year. We also get the books (both preschool and elementary) and we love to decorate so that adds to the total cost, although we are trying to do more coordinating so we can share with other churches. I think we spent around $3,500 this year on VBS.
