| Here's a cheap & simple alternative to the leathershop craft, and it looks very similar. Materials: sheets of brown foam, foam shapes, black plastic "string," and hole punch We first cut the sheets in half, then in 2 in thick strips. This gives you 8 strips per sheet. Using a standard hole punch, make 6 holes down the middle of each strip. Using same hole punch, make holes in your foam shapes. The shapes we used came in a big pack from the craft store, and did not have the adhesive on the back (you don't need it for this craft). The shapes ran from about 3/4 inch to 1 1/4 in size (triangles, hearts, circles, squares - but you can use whatever you like). Cut the string into about 10-12 inch pieces. The kids begin by threading the string through the first hole in the brown strip, then through a shape and down through the second hole in the wristband; repeat this two more times until all the holes in the wristband are use. The "leather" band can then be tied on the child. PROS: very cheap, no glue, all our kids were able to do it with little help, looks the part
