Our Marketplace leaders tested the sugar cube structures with elmers glue. They said the sugar cubes were melting... My co-director said she had done these kind of structures in a previous job...with FROSTING. I saw in a previous post (which I cannot find now) that there were children trying to eat their structures (including the clue). I just wanted to share this tip that we are going to use which will eliminate the concern of melting sugar cubes AND children eating glue. :o)

And it doesn't need to be fancy frosting either.  Just mixing powdered sugar with a bit of water will do the trick!

Popcycle sticks or toothpicks work fine for applying the frosting.  I prefer the toothpicks because it is less messy and still gets enough frosting onto the cube to be sticky.

Hi,

How many sugar cubes are being used per child? I am trying to figure out how many to buy. Also, any suggestions on a good place to get them? (Any one seen them at Costco?)

Thanks!
Merrilee

We used the squeezable frosting. But you're right, non-fancy would work too! Some kids used 40-60 sugar cubes and some used more.... It just depended on how fancy they wanted their structure to be. This seemed pretty popular, so I'd have plenty on hand. Have a child build one as a sample and see what they do. That'll give you a good idea.

We got most of our sugar cubes from wal-mart. They come in a 5x5 (ish) box. Good luck!
