| Just learned that a dear lady from our congregation died this morning and the family wants her funeral at the church on Monday.... the first day of VBS! Service and luncheon goes til 2pm and dinner for VBS starts at 5pm (VBS is 6-8:30)! I can't put up ANY decorations until after the service (we use the sanctuary for opening and closing), can't move out any chairs or furniture to make way for the VBS set until service is over. Gives me about 3 hours to set everything up before 200 kids start to arrive. Could use prayers for the family who lost a mom/wife/grandmother, and prayers for a speedy and successful set-up after the service.

I know how crazy and hectic it will be but you can do it! I will keep you all in prayer as well as the family that lost a loved one and your church! I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength Philipians 4:13!! I am soooooooo sorry this has happened but stay encouraged in the Lord

Okay, it's going to be fine. Do absolutely everything you can in every other area for decorating. People realize a church is used for a lot of different ministries, so if someone sees something down the hall that looks like it's for kids, then so be it. Have everything as ready as you can to swoop in and decorate. Enlist extra help, even crew leaders, but be choosy about dead weight (no offense). Have someone else do dinner, so you can have that extra hour before VBS. Or, get someone who can really take the decorating ball and run with it, so you can do dinner, but don't try to do both. If you can only do Monday items, for time constraints, you can add the other posters and everything else later. It won't hurt if you haven't done every detail the first night. It really won't. Kids don't know that you'll have more. Of course, you'll need your backdrop and stage almost perfect, but if it's not, it won't define how the first night will go in the cl.
Pray, let people know that everyone needs to pitch in for this very swift decorating session, trust that God will provide what is needed for your VBS, and pray again. This won't be a reflection on you personally (as much as we think it is). These are difficult times, and you have to share the time, as much as that seems unfair. Fortunately, it isn't a funeral for your loved one, which would not only create timing issues, it would also create emotional distress that you might not be able to be involved in VBS at all.
If you have people who can take off work early to help, let them. Have all your supplies ready at 1:55... stapler, duct tape, clear tape, hot glue, liquid nails, etc. If it's all available, you won't lose time running home to get it. You probably have a classroom or closet to put things in to be ready to pull out and start running, but don't leave it in your car. That's too far to have to run back and forth.
Best of luck, and let's hear your God report when you finish your first night... might be the first God sighting of the week!
Blessings!
