| We currently do GAs and RAs on Wednesdays and though our GAs are very successful we are having a hard time finding not only a leader but more than 4 boys to get invovled. So...I was wondering what others are doing or if any of you know of other Wednesday programs that could be used for boys. Combining is not an option at this time but anything that might work for boys. Thanks for any ideas/suggestion!!

This is great discussion! We use to do RA's and GA's and the material became very dated, so we switched to a rotation style format for preschool and elementary kids. We change it up often enough to keep it interesting. We always start and end with worship, and in between we have 3 cl including bible study, shepherd groups (like small groups, usually by age and gender), and then crafts or games. Sometimes we do Bible study for kids 1st-6th (preschoolers go to their own class) all together following opening worship. This way we can use Power Point, and we don't have to travel to the first class. At other times, we rotate the bible study class as well, and address age appropriate issues. We divide up for the other activities, with leaders doing the same material over and over. Does this sound like Group's Easy VBS? Well, that was the best model we had and it works great for us. We have from 30-40 kids on Wednesdays, and it works well. We don't lose the older kids this way either, because they love their small groups. Our boy/girl issues are minimized by separating for small groups and sometimes for activities. The leaders love it because their preparation is minimal. There is a lot of planning, and we can't just run in and wing it, but for the director to have things planned out and provided to the teachers in plenty of time, there's so much less confusion or frustration. The diversity and schedule changes keep it fresh for the kids too.
Let us know what you decide to do, and what works.

Mission Friends curriculum is not very age appropriate, so we are planning to use Group's Play and Worship and one of our teachers is writing simple age appropriate lessons such as "Jesus Loves Us and wants us to tell others".
RA's and GA's are using the materials provided but making modifications. All our teachers teach Group curriculum on Sundays, so they are R.E.A.L. with everything! They take the GA's and RA's literature and pull out the interactive, age appropriate materials, plus add things of their own.
I too wish there was a better Mission emphasis curriculum out there to choose from!!!! Wednesday nights at our church are for Missions so changing to a regular Bible study curriculum isn't going to cut it for us.

Royal Ambassadors for boys and Girls in Action (use to be Girls Auxiliary) for studying missions and missionaries. It's a Baptist thing.
