I am stuck on ships and life preservers. Any one have any ideas for other decorations? We have two "stages" - one in our sanctuary where I am sure we will do a version of what is suggested by Group. We have another stage in our Fellowship Hall. This year it was pretty much a copy of what was in our sanctuary. I would like to put something different and eye catching next summer. Any ideas?

I would do one seeing the outside of the ship, as if we were about to board it, and the other one would be on deck, so the decorations would be fairly different from each other.

Good luck!

I like Shawn's idea... but you could take it a step further and focus on an "exploring captain's quarters" with maps and comp and other sea navigation items.

Thanks for the ideas. Maps on the wall are a great idea, maybe a few port holes. I am thinking that perhaps I could make it look like a ship's galley and the snack prep could actually take place on the stage.

Last week I went to Dollar Tree and found some table centerpieces with a treasure map theme.

Those sound pretty cool. I really like having those little extras.

How about hanging nautical flags from the ceiling. I found a poster that has some flags on it and thought these could be copied onto paper or material and hung up like we did for Fiesta.

Found at a yard sale last week: a wooden bucket. It has wooden slats and iron rims and handle. Looks very old. Like one you would find on the deck of a ship. Needs some repair but hopefully someone at church will know how to do this.

Nautical flags are a great idea. We did a lighthouse themed VBS a number of years ago and used them then. Thanks for the reminder. If I remember correctly we had the kids make a flag for each of their initials. Thanks for the reminder.
