| We finished our VBS last week and it was far and away the most amazing week I can ever remember being part of! We had so many people that dedicated themselves to being part of VBS this year and every night something happened that brought a smile or a tear - or both! I thought I would share a couple of the highlights. I was leading Chadder's and laughed a lot the night we discussed superheros. I told the kids I really liked Batman because you could send a bat signal in the sky and he would come and help you. (The little girl who lives next door to me insisted that she had never seen me do that but could I invite her over next time I needed his help.) The kids were looking at each other like I had lost my mind. One child finally spoke up and said, "You do know he is just pretend don't you?" I replied, "But my book from the library says that he will help me." Another child told me I was "reading the wrong book". I asked them what book I should be reading and all said "the Bible". I was told that "God is more powerful than any superhero". One child even came up to me, grabbed my arm and said, "Don't you know that God sent His son to die for you?" I was so amazed at how they came together to "set me straight". (I did assure them that I was only teasing and I did know all about how powerful God is and I do read the "right book" .) On another night (Thursday I think) we link fingers to create a giant "possum tail" to say our prayer before dismissing to the next session. Before I started one of the children asked if they could pray. He was 7 years old and said the most beautiful prayer. When he was done a little girl asked if she could pray and asked God to help her mom find a job so they would not have to move and leave their friends. The prayer continued around the circle and ended with a 5 year old boy who recited all of the bible points one after another. It was beautiful! I wasn't the only one to experience some amazing God sightings. Thursday night in Bible Bayou the kids wrote their names on a cross after hearing about God sending His son to die for us. Instead of writing his name, one little boy painted "I'm sorry" on the cross. It was very moving for everyone. The married couple who led Bible Bayou really outdid themselves and wore elaborate costumes. She made her costume and dressed like an egyptian woman and he actually went out and bought a Pharoah costume. It really added a lot to the story and they looked incredible! (We all felt underdressed!) Over half of our volunteers were 16-20 years old. They were so mature and helpful and really helped make our VBS successful. We had several who would bring friends and they kept coming back. This was by far the most stress free VBS ever! We only had two small hiccups - one, the lady who was suppose to do Chadder's became very ill a couple days before VBS. Please keep her in your prayers. Two, the lady who volunteered to led the preschool had misfortune of having her house struck by lighting and burning a couple weeks before VBS. She continued on and God blessed us with 5 preschoolers instead of the 20 we normally have. Our numbers grew by 15 in the other age groups. We were still up from last year. Praise God! We even had several families come to chruch on Sunday. Like I said, it was an amazing week!!! Thank you to all those who put such wonderful ideas on the forum. It makes directing so much easier! Thank you Group for such great curriculm! Shawn

Shawn,
Thanks for sharing your beautiful stories. I know you had a blessed week with the kids, seeing all the God sightings. Thanks for telling us that the staff "hiccups" didn't ruin anything. We pray blessings on those who had difficulties, and for your kids and leaders, may they each receive God's power and comfort in the days to come.
I was especially treated to read your sweet words... it reminds me of a great week I had a month ago.
Joy to you, Shawn,
Shawn
