I was involved in two Crocodile Dock VBS programs this summer. Overall, I think that the God Sightings are a great idea but I don't think the kids understood what God Sightings were in the two VBS' that I was involved in. I was one of the Sing & Play Swamp Stomp Station Leaders for one of the Crocodile Dock programs and I felt that I didn't explain what God Sightings were well enough for the kids to understand. I followed the Sing & Play Swamp Stomp Leader Manual. Could Group explain more in detail next year so the kids understand it better? I see all of these wonderful posts on all of the wonderful God Sightings and how kids really got it and that's awesome to see but I feel like we didn't accomplish what we were supposed to. Does anyone else feel this way? What could I have done better to teach the kids about God Sightings?

God Bless,

Josh

I think it's important for it to be reinforced elsewhere. We wrote it into the Chadder manual, too, which really  helped. And our snack leader mentioned it as well. It should be brought up in Sing & Play, Chadder, Snacks, and Finale. The repetition REALLY helps!

Keep the God sightings. After the first day the kids really were sharing with their crews. I would share something I had seen the Day before and then I let each crew have a minute or two to share. Then I asked each crew leader to share one that their crew shared. One 5th grader was so happy that her Dad was able to come to the finale the night before.Another was happy because her best friend could come to VBS with her. A real God sighing to me were our station leaders and crew leaders they made the kids feel special and comfortable. We had a lot of sharing especially in Bible Bayou this was when they were to only think about a sin they had done but they openly admitted they had sinned and named the sin. Trust in the Lord. The kids loved going up to the set on Friday and getting a God sight light to put in their lantern. It was very special to see all of them holding the lanterns high as they sang this little light of mine.

God Bless
Kathy

The thing was for one of the Crocodile Dock VBS programs, I was Sing & Play Swamp Stomp Leader, Dockside Drive - In Leader, and Firefly Finale Leader. I don't think I really communicated well what a God Sighting was and I don't think I really understood what it was. A God Sighting is a way that God shows Himself to you each day or how He uses others to show Himself each day. I wish I could have done better at that.

I'm not saying to take away the God Sightings. From all the wonderful posts, kids really get what they are and how God is working in their lives. My situation is just one of a kind.

God Bless,

Josh

I think the best way to describe what a God Sighting is...is to give examples of your own each day.  Ultimately, a God Sighting is just a way of showing the children that we can see God in just about anything good...the beauty of nature around us, the good behavior of another, the taste of a fresh piece of fruit.  I'm the Swamp and Stomp leader, and I have kids coming up to me all thoughout the evening telling me about their God Sightings.  It's awesome.  I think you're being harder on yourself than you need to be, Josh.

I referred to this scripture, saying that God invented good stuff like love, kindness, etc. so we should give Him the credit when we see it!

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

I don't think you were alone in your struggles with the God sightings.  We tried to give examples each day and in different cl showing God sightings...things OTHER than nature.  They saw God in nature but that was the extent of it.  I liked the idea but definitely prefered the Daily Challenges!!
