| What are people doing as an alternative to Group's Bible Memory Maker coins? We purchased them, but now that our VBS is drawing near and I am looking at our budget I see that these account for almost 10% of it. It is hard to justify. Heck, we could probably buy actual BIBLES for everyone for that cost. Does anyone feel that the BMMs were absolutely essential to the program?

We made little cards instead. At the end of the week the kids had a "deck" of cards. Each day was a different color and contained the Bible Point and the Scripture. Then we asked the kids what they would do if they lost their cards. How would they know where to read about what Paul had written. Of course, many of them knew it was the Bible. We suggested they might want to use their cards as bookmarks for the scriptures in Romans. We gave out the little OTC coins as a "reward" for knowing their bible verse the next day. Those coins are really cheap so this kept the cost waaaay down for us.

We thought they were too expensive so we're making our own. We're using the large size glass "coins" (or beads/marbles whatever you want to call them). They are used in the bottom of vases to secure floral arrangements and are available at craft stores. They are flat on one side and rounded on the other. They are a little more than an inch across.
On the computer, I printed the daily symbol with the daily point in about a 1" circle. Then the circles are cut out and on the printing --right on top of the ink--I place a small amount of glue. This is then glued to the flat side of the coin. The image is visable and even magnified by the glass so that you can read the phrase right through the glass. We're giving these to children older than 3.

| We finished our VBS last week. We opted out of the Bible Memory Maker coins as well. The cost seemed too great, particularly in light of the fact that our VBS was 3 days, not 5. We decided to have "dog tags" made and put on necklaces. We started out with everyone getting the generic Rome tag, then added a tag for each day of VBS. Our marketing/publications wiz on staff ordered more than I needed, so I ended up not really saving much, but it was a neat idea.
