Haven't been on this forum since last year so I'm making my return needing some advice.
I need some help yet really feel that my idea that I've used for the past few years has been the best yet on this but I've been given the 'thumbs down' on it.
Every year we have done an incentive for the children as a way to give to our missions offering. Every year for the past 6 years except for 2 years ago we have done a "Pie in the face" contest between the boys and girls and whoever wins, we draw a name from a hate out of the boys and girls for someone to pie me. Has been a big thing and it really does draw the offering in so we can give to our mission of choice. I really like this idea and feel it has been the best way of drawing the kids and getting them excited for them to stay for the whole week. I know our first goal is to expose the World of God to them and in no way do I want to take away from that, but this does give them something to look forward to keep on coming over and over again so we can get the Word to them.
Anyways with the fact that it looks like I've been given the thumbs down on this I need something else that could be as effective. A couple of years ago, we did not do it and we had some 6th grade girls recommend I dress up as a girl if the girls win yet there really became no incentive for the boys. I don't want to do this again as it was not effective the first time and honestly do not like dressing up as a girl. Ideas have came up such as water ballooning me but I just don't see this as effective.
Anyways, enough on my soap box, if there is any suggests I could use, our VBS is next week and I need something. I figure the kids will shout out that they want to pie me no matter what so maybe I can convince to go that route. Anyways, any suggestions?

We do hair "dying" with spray cans of hair color. It washes right out, but the kids don't know that . I put a tarp down, set out a few folding chairs and bring plenty of old bath towels to drape over shoulders & clothes. This year the girls picked 2 of the teen boy crew leaders, the boys picked me. The girls won by less than 1/2 lb of offering. Those poor boys about died . . . one's mom was helping, so I let her do his hair; the other had 3 younger teen sisters helping, and I let them do his hair. Since the boys were such good sports and since the girls barely won, I let my husband come up and spray my hair too.

| One thing I like to do is have the children work as a team toward a common goal, rather than by gender. Set their goal. Then, get a can of dinty moore beef stew. Change the paper label to an alpo label. If the children reach their goal, have them serve you up the can of "dog food" on a silver platter. They completely fall out and LOVE this. It is also a great way to get them talking about God with their friends . .. and of course, day five is all about having the courage to share their faith. What an easy way for a 5th grade boy to start a conversation, you know? One thing bears noting on this though . . . and any stunt such as this. I always inform the parents ahead of time so that there are no surprises amongst the adults. Nothing like a fun and zany way to show the children how important His work is! :0)

I'm assuming you're a guy since you don't like dressing as a girl so why not offer to shave your head of the total offering reaches a certain amount. That way it's not a competition against one another but a collaborative effort with all the kids.
