| We hold our program from 6-9 pm with a snack supper served from 5:30-6pm. We have tremendous dad support. Maybe it helps that as VBS directors we are a husband and wife team. I prefer to use dads for crew leaders. We have many older teens that grew up with the programs and now they are our main station leaders (games, bible story, sing and play - this year alone.) Get those dads involved any way you can. They are such a blessing to the entire program.

We had our VBS in the evening this year 6:00 - 8:30 and we had many dads! That gave most of them time to get home, grab a quick supper, and then get to church. We also offer a $5 discount per child if you volunteer (we charge $15), and we had black t-shirts for the volunteers this year. They had a crocodile head and then just said Fear Not. I think some of the dads signed up just so they could get the free t-shirt. Heidi

I am truly enjoying watching my husband be a crew leader this week I was asked to help at a friend's church, and when I told my husband (actually asked him how he felt about me committing to another VBS) his response was, "Well, I could help too! Why didn't she ask me?" So what I learned from this was -- just ask; and ask personally and specifically. Often our 'general' call for volunteers will only get those who are already willing to help, but a personal request and conversation about how someone is needed could be what is needed to get those men (and others not yet helping) to serve.
It also helps to feed them The church we are helping serves dinner during the normal 'snack shack' station time, so we don't have to worry about cramming in a meal before rushing to VBS across town. It helps that my husband's work schedule is 7a-4p during the summer, but with a 5:30p-8:30p VBS schedule, he would just have easily driven himself there right after work if he got off by 5pm. And I always thought he just wasn't feeling 'called' to help with kids ministry events -- but now he'll be sure to get a personal volunteer request for every one!
So far, we are working together to lead a crew of 3rd, 4th & 5th graders - but tonight my hubby gets to take another crew around, as someone will not be able to make it until after snack shack, and he personally knows several of the kids in that crew (including our younger son). And if the number of campers keeps increasing like it did last night (our crew doubled from 3 kids to 6 kids!), the crews in our group may be split to give us each our own crew.
So -- YAY for men who participate in children & youth ministries of all kinds!
God Bless!

This year we had several dads to help with VBS. This year we had more dads to help than last year. It was great to see all of them involved. One of the dads kind of got drafted into helping with the Bible Stories. He didn't want to do it at first but finally agreed. He did a great job. He wants to help next year!!!! I started with two dads last year and this year we had 7 dads. "Praise the Lord!"

We finished CD a week ago. My hubby said we had a 2 week "VBS cooling off period" - well I'm still working on follow up on the last and visiting High Seas and he is planning the cannons and sanctuary decorations - so much for the cooling off period! Love the idea of building a boat for parades and community events - noodling on that one!

| For CD we are planning a "Swamp Stomp" Fall Festival which we announced at our closing celebration. Additionally we are using the photo frames group produces to send pictures to each child and will do a fairly aggressive invitation to our "Back to Sunday School" kick off. Not sure what any the results any of these will have but people will know that they are welcome back. God Bless you and your ministry
