| I am hoping that the manual provides snack ideas for the Egypt VBS. Group, in my opinion, didn't do a great job of providing ideas for snacks with the Rome VBS program. I thought Rome was a great VBS with a good message but it was far from 'easy' and hope that Egypt will be a bit easier to follow. Does anyone know of any snack ideas? Thanks!

I'm sorry you weren't happy with the snack suggestions. Remember that the snack shop is a chance for kids (and adults) to explore the kinds of foods eaten in ancient Rome (or, for next year, ancient Egypt). We also tried to take into account what most people will and won't eat, allergies, and availability and cost for snack supplies. We've done the same for Egypt--providing a list of suggested food items that fit with the setting while being as authentic (and edible) as possible.

| I too was hoping that this manual for Egypt would contain snack ideas for each day of VBS. Other programs that I have used in the past offered a themed snack for each day as well as giving tips for doing your own thing. Is there a possibility that this could be added to Egypt?? Sometimes my volunteers prefer to have things already planned out for them so all they have to do is buy and make.

Forgive me if my reply shows my ignorance of how the Holy Land Adventure VBS works, but are the snacks presented at one of the marketplace shops? Does the material not provide enough information on what foods could be offered, or not enough options for the whole week?
I ask, because the posts above sound like they are expecting materials closer to what we get with the EasyVBS program -- where each day is a different snack, which relates to the theme & daily lesson. My understanding of the HLA programs is that the foods are part of the experience in the Marketplace, and aren't necessarily a specific item per day, and could even be mostly the same things each day but just changing out one or two food items with something different. The Marketplace shops seem to allow for a lot of flexibility...
Like I said, I haven't every done an HLA VBS; I've never even seen the material for one (although I'm tempted to personally purchase one just to show our church what the 'other' Group VBS looks like). But I do know that the forum members are always willing to share ideas -- lots of creativity on these boards! So hopefully other people who will be doing Egypt will see this post and add their ideas - and not just post opinions of Group's programs (like I just did!)
I hope to hear about an Egypt VBS in my neck of the woods for 2010 -- I'd love to help out, or even just bring the family and participate
God Bless!

| We actually thought the snacks for Rome were the best ever - and we got rave reviews from parents and kids alike. It was nice to have simple, healthy foods for a change, and they were MUCH easier than the themed snacks we'd done with Easy VBS. We served fruit (grapes, apple slices) cheese squares, rolls, fish crackers, pita chips, carrot sticks, and hummus. I can't see us ever going back to the frost-your-own-cookie kind of snacks from the past - too much time, mess, and not too healthy...
