Position Description

The Youth Minister is responsible for the development and direct supervision of a comprehensive spiritual growth ministry for the sixth through twelfth grade youth of The Village Presbyterian Church.  The Youth Minister should be actively involved in the lives of young people and able to model and relate Jesus Christ and the Christian life to students in a relevant, relational and meaningful way.

  • The Junior High portion of our youth ministry currently involves 40-50 in Sunday School, 20-30 in bi-weekly small groups, 40-80 at the monthly "Friday Night Live" fun/game night, and about 25 in the upcoming eighth grade confirmation class.
  • Our Senior High has between 10-25 attending the Sunday night youth group, a girls small group of 5-12, 4-6 potentially available for a guy's small group (not yet started), a great deal of one-on-one interaction with the students, and occasional group social activities.

We've seen substantial growth in all areas of the ministry in the last year.

We offer a generous compensation package that includes salary, rent-free use of a three bedroom parsonage across the street from the church, plus benefits (including medical insurance and pension).

Position Requirements

The Youth Minister should have an active, vital, growing faith in Jesus Christ and should be involved in spiritual growth opportunities to nurture his/her own personal faith.

The Youth Minister should feel called to and gifted for youth ministry in a church setting and have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Church Ministries or a related field.  A Master’s Degree is preferable.

Organization and administrative skills are necessary.  Two to three years experience leading a Youth Ministry is preferred.

Church Description

The Village Presbyterian Church is an established church with over 1300 members but average Sunday attendance is about 400.  A few years ago it adopted a “Purpose Driven” model of ministry as part of an overall strategy to renew and revitalize the church and prepare it for ministry in the twenty-first century.  It currently has a traditional worship service at 8:00, a contemporary service at 9:30, and a traditional service at 11:00.  The church has excellent facilities for youth ministry, including a recently remodeled youth room.

Northbrook is a north-shore suburb of Chicago.
