I keep reading about different churches that sell the music CD to the families.  Is this allowable without violating any copywrite issues??  It's something we are interested in doing next year but we don't want to break any laws.  Does anyone know the rules on this??  Thanks.

I always assumed the sale of CD's and DVD's was fine.  We buy about 100 DVD's and 35 CD's to sell.  It's a great way to get families excited before VBS.  We even have grandmas buying the DVD's for grandkids far away because they enjoy the music and motions and great songs.  Group--is this wrong?

You're allowed to sell Group's CD's and DVD's. Many, many churches use this as a fundraiser to help offset the costs of their VBS, or to raise money for Operation Kid-to-Kid, or for other ministry needs.

Just to add to the discussion -- you do not want to make COPIES of the CD or DVD to sell -- that WOULD violate copyright laws. This seems obvious, but every year I have someone (or several) asking for a 'copy' of the CD, and they do mean COPY - and I remind them that that is equivalent to stealing. But I do let them know how they can purchase one. Our church has never sold CDs or DVDs as a fundraiser [that I know of], so I just point them to the website.

Thanks, Group, for choosing such great music that families and kids continue to love years and years after VBS!
God Bless!

You can not make copies of any Cd's with out permission from the one who made the cd.  other wise you are breaking copy right laws.   All Cd's are thru group are not allowed to be copied . you have to buy more copies of the cd's if you need them.   I buy extra copies of the music cd's so that my choir can get them to practice the music.   My husband is one who really make sure we follow the copy right laws at church . I also do a good policing for that as well.

God bless
