Hi,

I am thinking about making a lighthouse out of a carpet tube. Here is the idea I'm going to run with!

Blessings,

Trish (from Canada)

I wonder if a sonotube would be better suited for a light house?  Hmmm... I've also seen them made like this:

Which could be easily made from appliance boxes rather than trying to get a completely round shape!

Here is an interesting website.  This could certainly be adapted and enlarged (but please no glass at VBS!  LOL)

OK, so I've been playing around with a cardstock prototype for a very simple lighthouse shape that could be cut from foam (not sure how to glue it together!) or cardboard.

I've attached the file and will take a pic of my prototype and post it later.  Not sure how you would find cardboard that could be thin enough to cut easily and yet sturdy enough to stand.  But it could be really cool and you're really only limited in size by the sheets of cardboard you can find!

Just had a thought about the foam.  If you built a simple wooden frame (2x2s?) for the lighthouse, you could screw the foam pieces right on there or use plywood for the base and foam for the "light" and the roof.  The cool thing about using foam on lighter pieces (like maybe even 1x1s) would be that it would be moveable and sturdy at the same time.  I'm not a carpenter so I'm not sure how you'd manage building that.  But we have screwed in cardboard panels before with wood screws and a large washer at the head of the screw and it worked amazingly well!

This is cool Peggy! There was a wooden lighthouse at our fair at a church booth, and it was really cool! It was 3-4 feet high and wasn't round, had the edges kinda like peggy's. I was going to take a picture but then I decided they would probably think I was crazY! I guess enough people think I am crazy alredy! I got some strange reactions when people ask me what I'd been doing! I just cut 49 pylons for VBS next year! See, The picture! LOL

There is a pic on the crocdock decorationg forum!

Made on a small scale, these would make cute center pieces.

Thanks for sharing

Then one I made from cardstock is really cute.  I keep forgetting to take and post a picture, though.  I just think it would be way too hard with all the precise folding, for a craft for the kids.

So here is the lighthouse made from cardstock.  It's about 14" tall I think.
