We have a maximum of 6 children in our class, all 1st to 3rd grade (although we want to be prepared for 4th and 5th grades just in case) and are in need of new curriculum for the fall.  We just got the Hands-on Bibles and like the option of a curriculum to go with the Bibles.  Because we will have to use several rotating teachers this year we need something quick and easy for them but also fun for the children.  They really like hands-on activities and games and do not care for music at all.  Would this curriculum work for us?  Thanks!

Hi Heather -

Bible MAX is typically perfect for a class like you described, but you noted that you're really not that into music. Bible MAX was written similar to a children's church so there are several music tracks written into each lesson to help solidify the Bible point.

My other recommendation would be do to Hands-On Bible Curriculum. Since you have varying ages, I would suggest to get one learning lab and teacher guide for every 10-15 kids that you have. And I would suggest buying the Grades 3 & 4 Learning Lab and Teacher Guide for the current ages you have. We recommend that when using Hands-On Bible Curriculum for mixed ages that you obtain the older age level. HOBC also includes music but it is not as critical a component as with Bible MAX.

Take a look at the samples available at www.group.com/BibleMAX and www.HandsOnBible.com to preview each. And if you decide to order one or the other, both come with a 100% money back guarantee so you can always send it back after the first lesson and try another Group curriculum.

Started this Sunday with MAX and it went pretty well. We ended up with ten kids, spanning the grades from K to 5. We made two crews, and for the most part it was great. One of the older ones was especially interested in looking up the solutions to the "problems." After doing her crew's assigned problem, she said, "Can we do another one?" So I gave both the crews another card, since there were 5 in the lesson. The point really got across.

One funny thing was that one of the crew leaders DID come up with a way to tie the knot holding each end and manipulating it into what looked like a slip knot or a "noose." He was just showing off to me, though, and the kids didn't see. Maybe the lesson should have stated to try and tie an overhand knot specifically?
