Does your church give children Bibles?

If so, what Bible do you give them?

At what age/grade does your church give children Bibles?

We give children NLT Hand On Bibles when they enter Kindergarten and NIV Teen Study Bibles when they graduate from 6th Grade.

We also give the Hands On Bibles to kids who come to SS when they are entering first grade.

Because we're United Methodist, we do confirmation when the kids are in 6th/7th grade (only do it every other year) and they receive an NIV at the completion of that.

When they graduate we give them a study Bible.

We have Promotion Sunday/ Family Confirmation Night the 2nd Sunday in June.  (1st is communion, 3rd is Father's Day).  Once kids are done with the school year they don't want to be in  their old grade anymore.  Plus all the schools start the new year at different times around here (anywhere between August 10th and September 8th!) so there is no universal beginning of the school year.

During worship that day the kids and teachers come in and are prayed  over and the teachers are introduced.  The 2nd graders get a signed Hands on Bible (very popular).  It used to be 3rd graders (since that's the way it's always been done, gag) but our class is combined 2nd-3rd so it made sense to give it to them as they enter the new class.  Plus reading curriculum keeps starting younger and younger.

They leave with their new teacher and get to know them.  A map is in the bulletin so parents know where to pick up their kids and to fill out a new registration form.

Our Junior and Senior High do confirmation that evening and the new confirmands (usually 6th graders) get a teen bible.  I think the 9th graders get a new bible too.  Not sure.

Would like to have something for the new kindergartners who move over from the preschool building.  Any suggestions?

For quite a few years now, I have been giving the kids who are being promoted from the preschool department to the elementary (just before kindergarten) an "early readers" version of the Bible.  It's mainly a storybook but it gets them used to bringing their Bible to church.  When they go to the Youth department (going into 6th grade), they get a Teen Study Bible.  Most of the time the parents get them a children's Bible in between these two.  If we have kids come that don't have a Bible, we get them one.  For now I like the Hands On Bible for the elementary age.
