We did Rome this Summer for VBS and plan to do Night in Bethlehem during Advent. I am looking for new craft ideas for the marketplace since all of the crafts are the same as Rome crafts. Any ideas from those of you who have done Holy Land in the past would be greatly appreciated.

You may look through your Rome Shopkeeper's Manual and try some of the optional activities listed there.

| Here's a post where I listed what we planned to do for Easter a couple years. I could picture a couple of them working for you. I'll also post, when I have more time what we plan to do this year for Bethlehem Village. http://forums.group.com/Forum4487-2.aspx hope that might help a little bit! Pam

| We do a Bead Shop (jewelry)and a Spice Shop (sachets and ornaments made from cinnamon dough) in addition to some of the suggested activities. Once we did tie-dye at the Dye Shop (not exactly authentic, but the kids loved it).

| We are doing Night in Bethlehem on December 5 and ran into the same issue. We didn't want to use all the Rome crafts, so we're doing this instead: spice grinding stall using interesting spices; potpourri shop (not authentic but makes a great gift), baking shop (roll out pizza dough, brush with oil, and sprinkle seeds on top), jewelry making stall (leather cords with wooden beads), dried fruit seller, wooden ornament painting, pottery stall (making coil pots using Amaco air dry clay). We are repeating the brickmaker shop from Rome (stuff two grocery sacks with newspaper and use it to build) because the kids loved it. We're also bringing in some wooden block sets for the toddlers and preschoolers to play with. Our kids also loved the ink and bamboo styluses from Rome, so we're bringing those back to the census taker's stall. Everyone will have to sign in with a bamboo pen on parchment.
